I just bought a 87 Grand National tuned to run racing fuel, but I want to use it as my daily driver. I was told I needed to install a methanol injection kit to run 92 octane. I know nothing about cars and don't want to ruin the engine. Any advice?

Well turn the boost all the way down. Then start reading the board. See what type of chip you have. Report back. Do not beat on it until you are educated or it gets expensive fast:)

Welcome to the board. You said you know nothing about cars? I hope you didn't bite off more than you can chew. These cars are very tempermental. Even as reliable as my car is these days I'm constantly working to keep it that way. But to answer your question, Yes, convert to methanol injection. Order razor's alky control from a vendor. Then get a turbo tweak alky chip to match your mods.

It is not necessary to run methanol injection if you run a 92/93 octane pump gas. However, it will limit the amount of boost you are able to run. Post what mods are done to the car that you KNOW to be true and a more accurate answer can be given. I would venture a guess that there are several mods done since the car had race gas in it when you bought it.

My stock GN had basically no mods except for a chip and I ran plain ol Chevron 93 for upwards of 2 years with NO methanol injection, but was only able to pull about 16 psi of boost.

Turn your boost down to 10 and enjoy the car as it is.

If you know nothing about cars the first thing you need to do besides taking it easy on the throttle is to find somebody who knows these cars that can help you....They need to help you identify what your car has and is capable of....In the mean time as suggested read and learn what you can....You will have a boat load of questions so having some one who has looked at your car and knows what it has can assist you a little at a time until you get what you want out of the car....Honestly for a newbie to have a car they know nothing about that was tuned to run race gas can and will be a handful....

Take your time with it and find a Turbo Regal guy you can trust!! Good luck!! This board would be a good place to start looking and there are many here that can help!!
