The Metra railroad has its own Police force in Illinois and as far as I know they are mostly made up of retired city and suburban dept. police officers. All of the dealings I have had with them have been great, and yesterday evening around 10 O' clock an offender/s shot and killed a Metra policeman as he was watching a station from his car, that has had a series of Robberies recently. I cant stress how bad I feel for the family and friends of this fallen Officer, I only hope that the investigation leads to the arrest and conviction of the offender/s. Dont be suprised if U see a few Police involved shootings in the next week or so as we tend to get a lil hi strung after incidents like this. My partner and I usually have or weapons out and ready on street and vehicle stops so in the event that a subject has bad intentions we should come out OK. The problem is we cant see everybody all the time. I usually take the time to explain our actions these days but I dont think it helps. Incidents like the Metra Officers murder kind of justify our actions.

.........

A teacher colleague of mine actually knew the police officer personally. Said he was an extremely nice guy. He leaves behind two kids a 6 and I believe a 4 year old as well.
My regrets and condolences..you guys do an awesome job everyday and are truly some unsung heroes

You know my favorite saying "I would rather be judged by 12 instead of being carried by 6"

Steve

Chances are the perp is already wanted.

I just wish the judges would lock these scum bags up instead of "tag and release". If you pay attention to the news they actually tell you, every time there is a shooting they blame the guns and at the same time mention the perp was wanted for other crimes, then they show you a mug shot. You had them once, why is he out preying on the innocent AGAIN
A small fraction of the population commit a majority of the crime, habitual offenders that the judges refuse to incarcerate.

 I won't mention politics

That sounds familiar.

I arrested a 19 year old that I caught with a .40 caliber Glock(stolen policemans gun) and he was set loose on bail and during the time he was out and awaiting trial, he was involved in a road rage incident because the other driver looked at him the wrong way. The 19 year old pulled out his new gun and shot and killed the other driver at 5 oclock in the afternoon. He has since been convicted and put away but a life was lost for no reason.

judges wont get serious with an offender until someone in their family become a victim. if i was a retired cop & working a part time job, i'd still wear that bulletproof vest.

The prisons are full. And each time the government wants to build a new prison/jail the taxpayers not only turn down the request for money to build one they're not willing to have it in their own backyard.

This is one instance of the government trying to do the right thing but we the people say no.

Ask any cop on this board if they get sick and tired of arresting people and having to release them because the jail can't take any more prisioners.

I know locally there are drug dealers picked up, charged, then released and a short time later arrested for the same crime, before even going to court on the first charge.

A friend of mine was actually one of the first on the scene for that crime. He said it was pure chaos with how many people they locked up that night. It was a no questions asked situation, if you were on the streets you were locked up for possible suspects.

I was on the roadside earlier as the procession passed by and it was quite an honoring. I've never seen so many sqaud cars in one place, many were from as far away as 100miles and about every town inbetween.

Liberals

Correction: That Was The Union President. I Guess It Was Too Good To Be True That A Police Chief Would Be That Vocal. Nevertheless, He Is Still Correct!
