I've heard the term "Mickey Moused Wiring" thrown around a little bit, what does this mean? :)

Could someone give me an example or two?

Thanks,
Glen

i've done electrical work for a very long time...

so, my opinion is, its hacked, screwed up wiring .. or, maybe going more with the "term"; wiring munched on by critters :p

Usually by car people we see something mickey moused it is usually an item that has been rigged, butchered or just plain screwed up. It may work but has that I am a crappy and don not care attitude. This may include wires wrapped together with tape on them looking like teepee. Or using house wiring nuts to wire two items together with the same tape in a teepee. Using duct tape for wiring rather than electrical tape also wrapped in the same teepee arrangement. Using coat hangers to install a brand new or junk yard exhaust system. These types of items would be considered mickey moused. Lights or switches just hanging from the dash board that turn the blower fan off or on. Ignition switch replaced with an autozone special switch for a lawn mower. Yes I have seen and worked car vehicles with these types of items. Hope this makes sense of what mickey mousing something is. I have more examples and this does filter over the IT world also.

I like the term I came up with. "My GN has more back yard wiring than Cooters tow truck!"

I'm a graphic artist and do a lot of photography for the company also. The dude that sits next to me does some photography for the company too, but I seem to be the one everybody wants to use. I give the dude next to me a hard time and say he is a Mickey Mouse photographer because you did photography at Disney world for 2 years!! He doesn't seem to like it when I say that. :D

Just means crappy wiring to me. Using crappy inline fuse holders...etc.

We use the term "Mickey Mouse" also when we have cheap name brand stuff. Like a "Sanyo" Radio, "Raptor" amplifier etc...

Example: "Kenne Bell chips are Mickey Mouse". :D

The term "Bad ass" would be the complete oposite to "Mickey Mouse." Always lisen for the term "Bad Ass" when buying something. :D

Thats what I was thinking it meant, thanks for the reply's. ;)

Actually I remember seeing a thread where someone advised another person to fix the facotry mickey moused wiring. Didn't know if the factory did some questionable wiring on our cars or what.

Not so much that they did questionable wiring, but they sometimes used wire that was noy a large enough gauge. Hope this helps. FI wiring harness is a prime example.
