other then biting off ears yea he was a great boxer. but wouldnt have lasted one round against an top ranked MMA fighter unless he learned how to defend against the take down or learned ground fighting himself which he probably could have considering he was a street fighter long before he was a boxer.

As Brett says, other than biting off ears, oh and rape and Lord knows what else. You should read Teddy Atlas' story/interview about Iron Mike. People can change, and I hope he has cause I liked him in the Hangover movies but he was one bad man. I still think an Ali in his prime would have beaten him however.

James Tony got beat up by an MMA fighter - and when the MMA fighter was asked if he would step into a boxing ring with Tony he said NO WAY.

Ultimate fighting has become a cuddling contest,boring watching 2 men grope each other.I think Tyson was a powerful fighter but wonder if he could fight Ali in his prime.I think Ali would have got into his head and that would be it.

Well I beg to differ, when he was interviewed sometime after his release, and I can't remember with who but I'm sure one of this sites web gurus can find the actual interview, when asked if he committed the rape he replied " yeah I raped her". He took responsibility but that doesn't condone or change the fact.

And a MMA fighter would probably not want to step in the ring to box with Iron Mike,and thats wearing boxing gloves...I dont think i ever seen a bare knuckle fight end faster than MIke did with gloves

In his prime, basically before the ear biting and before buster douglas, he was a machine. Lots of people back then were saying he wouldn't be able to do it against Ali or even Foreman in their primes....but they weren't in their primes at the time so who knows. He was in his early 20s and he was the baddest man on the planet in the boxing ring. For that short amount of time there was no competition for him. If the MMA had been around then and been as profitable as boxing is, he may have trained for it and been a top dog there, who knows. Even the fighters who weren't scared of him seemed to become scared once they took a few punches.

People used and abused him, and I'm sure Cus was rolling in his grave if he was witnessing what the establishment was doing to him. Much like Bruce Lee, the establishment behind him wanted an unstoppable force, they cared little for the philosophy behind the art, they just wanted a wrecking machine. Boxing is a science, and Cus was the best at understanding that, but once Mike left Kevin Rooney, he solely relied on the intimidation factor that surrounded him because of the media hype, as well as that one punch knock out. Had Cus lived to this day, I strongly feel Mike would have annihilated Buster Douglas, as well as Holyfield, because anyone who knows boxing can see that Mike was an entirely different boxer once he left Kevin Rooney. He abandoned the "peek a boo" style, he abandoned the science, and just wanted to throw bombs like George Foreman...

Regardless, I think it's impressive and noteworthy for ANYONE to be the BEST IN THE WORLD at ANYTHING.

And he definitely was, even if it was a short time.
