What would be a good mild build for the 84 engine, The boost gauge only reads about 5#'s of boost and the trans wont go into overdrive until about 70mph... I'm planning on pulling the engine out over the winter and doing something to it, but i don't exactly know what. I want to go with the TA-33 turbo and 60# injectors, i know i need a fuel pump and the hotwire kit. What would be a good cam, and should i change from the stock pistons to something a little more agressive, also can the heads be milled, ported and polished, w/o risking anything else?

The fuel system and turbo upgrade are great ideas for power. Your stock rods, pistons should be fine for those upgrades. Same for your stock cam. A P&P job on the heads will wake up anycar, even more so Forced induction.

BUT...
Since your gonna take out the motor, I would decide then if you want to go all out, or stay stock for now. I myself would tear it down, really build it up while it's out. One less thing to worry about or good starting point.

As for your Transmisson, Would you know if anybody worked on it? IF a rebuild is in order, I would go with CK kit.

On the boost gauge, is this 5psi while driving or in park? Also, is this the stock boost gauge your going by?

Don't forget when you get all this is done, your brakes, Suspension, cooling system etc all need to be in check also.

Thats while the car is driving, and the gauge is an autometer gauge... The transmission is going to have to be rebuilt, and i would like to go with a bigger cam while i have the engine out.

Also when the car gets somewhat warm, there is a humming noise comeing from under the hood. I'm going to assume thats the turbo makeing that noise?

Consider one of the transmission vendors who advertise on this site. Don't give your car's tranny to a shop that doesn't understand them. There are subtle differences between a NA and turbo transmission. (valve body for one)

Another fairly dumb question... Should i go with forged aluminum pistons for the bigger turbo and alky kit?
