Guys,

The GN that I bought is all stock with the exception of a k and n air filter. There are so many modifications that can be done to these cars that it is hard for me to determine what changes are truly necessary for me to do. My goal is to have a good running, dependable car that won't be raced but still has some power improvements over stock. I plan on adding gauges, new fuel pump w/ hotwire, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, adjustable wastgate rod then start fine tuning. I may go to chip and injectors, but don't want to get too much injector/chip. What combinations seem to work well for these hot air cars. Thanks for the help.

well to make some power you will need some headers and a dp and with alky i think with the stock turbo you should make some ok power thats with a good tune tho but thats just my 2cents. i have one too but only drove it for 2 miles and now its been apart for awhile. im shooting for 11's or even 10's but man does it cost alot of money lol

So I guess that I can assume that using a stock turbo and adding the chip and injectors will do nothing to help the performance of my car. Is it far fetched to assume that the new fuel pump and hot wire along with the adjustable wastgate and fuel pressure regulator will make a dramatic difference to the performance of the otherwise stock car?

look into that 3 inch down pipe headers let it breathe go for ur fuel upgrades adj fpr and adjustable wastegate and go from there another good mod is upgrading to an 87 ecm then chip it then ur options increase in the basic hot air info they have some good basic modifications that r proven and recommended for future reliable power check it it has led me into the right direction then u have the help from these guys that already know

I pretty much have a stock motor with ECM&TT chip,Fuel,Intake, Ignition,LT1 MAF & translator upgrades . I do feel that the car has freed up some power, runs better, but to get any real power, I see now I need a TA33& heads. So I would advise you to just buy the TA33 and upgrade your fuel system and ECM with TT Chip.

Thanks for the information! I suppose from searching through this website that when making modifications to these cars that it ends up being a situation where one thing leads to another, and before you know it, there is a lot of money tied up in trying to make the car go faster. I have done a lot of searching on this site, and I know that my research will be ongoing in determining what I will do to the car this winter to make it a little more fun. Thanks again for the input!

X2. I have made the decision to stop my addiction for more power and keep some money in my wallet. These cars are fun to drive and even better when you go the car shows. You are the only hot air car there and the public is confused when they compare our engine to our intercooled brothers. Brad

Yeah, I understand the whole money pit thing! I guess that is why I am trying to draw a line in the sand so to speak, and try to determine what modifications these hot air cars need in order to get the most power yet not break the bank. Yeah, too late now, I already own the car! It will be fun though as I already enjoy the car.

If i could do it over again, I would get a TA33, head work,Fuel system upgrade(50lb injectors,walbro340&hotwire) Intake and exhaustand(even just dump out/cutout) alky/meth injection, CK shift kit, posi 28/30 donor... that's it. with that said I'd be leaving out the "well if i get this, youhave to get this also" so leaving out shocks, brakes, etc haha

Been watching and keeping my mouth shut so far but I'm working on the truely early HA car right now. Carb turbo is a bit of a pain but it can be made faster. You just have to figure out the best bang for the buck. If you want some ideas take a look in the B4Black section for my post, "finally got some time" and see how I plan to do it. Brad and a few others have listened to me b!tch about my headaches over the last few years but the info is viable and you can do much of it yourself if you have the equipment or friends that do.

Best bang for the buck is Alky, a bigger turbo, adjustable FPR, and some sort of scan tool with an upgrade to the 86-87 puter with a TT chip. If you want to go further you can but remember the acronym KISS. It means "keep it simple stupid" and it applies here.

It will take a while but they will show up once in a while. I think I've seen less than a dozen offered for sale in the last 3 years.
