Do any other military guys get hassled by the gate guards about Scanmasters? I get asked all the time if it's a radar detector and I'm used to that.

Today I actually had to wait for them to shoot me with a radar gun to prove to the guy it's not a radar detector. Stupid MAA's.

hey why would they care if its a radar detector?

We're not allowed to have radar detectors on military posts, at least not in the Army anyways. But I've never actually seen the MPs hassle anyone about it.

i was asked about it once going in the main gate a fort campbell but all i had to do was scroll the it once to show him what it did then they ask if the car was for sale but that happens all the time

I don't have a scanmaster, but I do have a radar detector. I forgot to take it down when I went to the Naval Academy one time. I noticed an MP following me and then realized just in time. He asked me about it, when I parked, but didn't give me a hard time.

Man, I didn't know that! gn85, thanks for letting me know; I will have to remember to take down my Valentine1 the next time tour the Naval Academy.
I never bother to take down the R-D when I enter Virginia; I don't care about those signs saying radar detectors are illegal in VA.
But MP's - that's another story.

Yeah, CT, VA & DC. make it illegal to use a radar detector in your vehicle. Some military posts (Army) don't say anything about your radar detector when entering post but they are illegal to use. It does help to put it away and put it up after entering post if you want to take a chance. Less potential for getting hasseled by an MP. I was an MP and just retired 1 May 2004. I was working as a force protection NCOIC at Ft Riley's Trooper Gate Nov last year. I'm sure if you had a scan-master one of the guards would have questioned it as being a possible radar detector.

No problem,

I used to also go to the Naval Yard in Washington. Same story. As I was on the road to come up to the gate, radar detector went in my console. In Virginia, I don't care too much, but on base... that's a no no. Now, you can use it (as far as I know) going thru Ft. Meade on Rt. 32. No problems there.

V1 is a good detector. Is it 'stealth' in Virginia/DC also?

yea it used to happen to me all the time getting on base in groton... they are the worst up there .... now that im stationed in jacksonville they arent that bad..

Scanmasters aren't, but radar detectors are. The average MAA/MP has the intelligence of a bowl of jello and they can't tell the difference. It's just annoying is all.

gn85,
The V1 can NOT go completely dark (stealth). The Escort CAN go completely dark.
It is not my intention to get into a whole yes it is-no it isn't thing here, but my opinion has the V1 as the best radar detector made today.
I have used both the V1 and the Escort.
I do have to say that they are both very close in quality, and the real difference - probably - comes in which detector that you get used to using.

I love when people ask what it is , i like to tell them its a " Cell phone code stealer" Those #s are cell phone codes , opp got another 5 or 10 .;)

Vector,

By stealth, I mean can the police actually detect it? I know in Virginia they actually use what can be called a "radar detector detector". This device detects a signal that radar detectors put out sometimes. That way, even if it is completely unlit and out of view, they can still detect it.

I know they are illegal in many provinces in Canada as well. I've heard the actually take a hammer and smash it on the spot. Don't know if that's true though.

As I understand it, and I'm no lawyer, the Federal Communications Act of 1936 "gave" the air ways to the US public.
So, if a citizens sees fit to monitor the airwaves for signals, such as radar signals (X, K, Ka, laser) we are free to do so.
A state may outlaw it, but a court would have to uphold the Federal law. That means confiscation on the road side, but a court date gets you your radar detector back.
As for Virginia, I don't know if they have radar detector detector's, but I have heard that police will pulse on their radar and watch traffic for people that suddenly slow down, then pull them over and search for a radar detector.
I have never had any problem.
