Did an oil change a week or so back and happened to look into the filter I just removed and there is a 1" x 2" chunk of the perforated metal and filter media that had blown into the center of the filter (MobilOne synthetic filter #M1-201). I hadn't notice any change in the oil pressure (MobilOil 15-40 synthetic) but before I changed the oil and after a wot run there was at least one lifter (roller lifters) really clacking, enough so it would max out the knock gauge ever 3-5 seconds, apparently there was no major harm done but Nick M. suggested I change back to regular dino oil and add a bottle of GM EOS, I did and its pretty much back to normal. Sure hope no permanent damage was done, I've driven it maybe 4-6 miles and the lifter is pretty much quieted down.

Has anyone else ever had a problem with the MobilOne synthetic filter coming apart like this one?

Used the Mobil 1 M!-302 with my turbo saver for several years and had no problem whatso ever.

I run the Mobile 203 (I think) with the biggie kit. I also blocked the oil bypass so it is all going through it. I usually use 10W30 oil and let the car warm up for several minutesbefore it moves. I have not had any problems. I did collapse a filter right after a new cam however (AC Delco Gold). I think it was overworked due to all the "stuff" in the oil and the high initial RPM. I keep it on the shelf as a reminder to let the car fully warm up.

There's a camp that believes strongly that the best way to warm up your car is to drive it, and not let it idle.

Normally, I am part of that camp. But, with the bypass plugged the only way to get the oil pressure to get to a reasonable level is to let it idle and warm up. As soon as the engine RPM gets above about 1500 RPM the oil pressure jumps into the "uncomfortable" zone so driving it isn't really an option.
