OK, OK, I know everyone here hates the montes.

Well I own a 87 TB & Sonny boy has a 85 Monte.

I have the chance to buy a used 200r4 from a running 85 Monte SS.
I would like to buy it to keep as a spare for both of us. I might even
have a friend rebuild it.

I know my son's trans is weak shifting into 2nd gear.

QUESTION: Would the chevy trans fit my TB?

QUESTION: I know there are some differences with the BFR 200r4 & the Chev 200r4. Could anyone explain them. ( I am thinking valve body & Tourque vert)

QUESTION: What would you use to partswise to build a good solid street trans with once a year drag strip visit?

Make sure it has overdrive i think only 1986 to 1988 monte carlo ss had overdrive. The valve bodies and torgue convertors are definately different on the turbo buicks.

85-88 SSMonte have the CQ/CZ 2004R, Late 84's had CQs, 83-84 had 350C trans. The ValveBodies have different calibration, Governors are different-Monte CZ has higher rpm shift point, The BR has Larger Servo, BR has larger TV Boost Valve. Not sure what else, Maybe stronger pressure regulator spring in BR. Torque Converters are close to or the same. I'm sure there are other things but, I don't know.

HP Rebuild kit, Hardened Sun Shell, Hardened Stator Supoort, Larger Servo, CK Shift Recal Kit, Deep Pan w/700R4 filter. More may be needed depending on how much torque, & if slicks, TransBrake etc.. is used like upgraded Forward Drum, Input Shaft etc..

The CZ converter is a no go in a TR. It will not spool for s hit with it. The rest of it is usable but id throw in a CK reprogram kit and a servo assembly out of a BR code or a billet servo. It will shift later than the BR code but you could always pull the servo and vb/gov combo out of your sons BR trans and use it on the CZ for the same end result once the reprogram kit is in there. It will function the same with the BR vb.. Also change the speedo driven gear if its not the blue one and you are using a 26" tire.
