What are the alcohol users finding is the best way to increase performance--more boost or more timing? Would my combo be faster with more boost and less timing? Thanks.

More boost and low timing worked best for me, as with most pump gas alky set ups.
Your timing is perfect for lots a boost.

I've got an extender chip, 21° in 1st/2nd, 19° in 3rd/4th. Even with alcohol, I can't run more timing than that when running over 18# of boost. But with the lower timing, I can run 25# of boost except when the desert heat comes in, and I have to either lower boost or lower timing. So, for my GN, it's lower timing and higher boost.

JC'sGN--What boost/timing did you run for times in sig.? Also, who's chip?

Ditto the above. Go with more boost! Dont go crazy with timing. IMO (and experience with my Dodge), timing has blown up alot more engines than boost has. In fact, I have never damaged the engine when timing was conservative, but have bent rods, blown gaskets, etc when timing was too aggressive and this was when I was running 110 leaded race gas, and not pump gas and alky.

Lots of timing down low will get burst and make the car 330 better. Up top..pull out the timing.

Analogy.. lite the bottle rocket..keep it lit.. Low timing will keep it lit. Look at my recent runs.. all done on low timing at the top. Yet the addition of a few degree's down low yields great results..

Lastly.. this is of course if you have a turbo that can generate the boost. Example is a stock turbo.. at 23-24 PSI in top gear there is no more air to be had..solution is add timing. If you were running a 70 turbo.. you have plenty of steam left.. up the boost.

Add alcohol ..pull fuel.. add more alcohol.. pull more fuel.. keep this up.. watch it wake up when you throw some boost at it.

Thanks guys. It appears that my current timing (24/21) is OK with my TE-61. If I want to go higher timing, I will probably need a dual nozzle set up, since I am running an older SMC kit and not Julio's system. :(

You guys make me drool with your 20+ degree timing chips! My ECU only sends 12 degrees advance under boost  It certainly leaves power on the table, but it also provides quite a bit of a safety factor.

Julio---i really liked idaho gn's system when i installed it. what im wondering is on a stock ecm car. do you keep turning fuel pressure down to take fuel out? or keep burning new chips? i have a street car im setting up now and was thinking of your kit. thanks----len

Might buy a GTech, or some other form of devise for measuring performance and see what you car actually likes. I think one of the newer ones, even does 330 or 300 foot times.

Opinions/trends, are just that, it takes testing to find your cars sweet spots. It's like these guys that run 11s with seemingly mild combos., often they've spent ALOT of time finding out exactly what their car likes.

Look Quick, boost @ 28 lbs, timing @ 26/21 also pulling fuel out of first and second. Extender extreme/trans plus.
A reliable progressive kit is needed to run high boost in my opinion...........("PAC")

bruce---Thanks for the comment on GTech. I know, I have to find what makes my car run the best on my own. :)

JC's---Your car runs well. I have had the SMC kit for years and have spent money on upgrades so I hate to buy a different kit. Julio has a great kit and I would like to have one sometime, just not now (unless I could get a good deal). I will just have to get my car running as well as it can on the SMC system for now.

I think it depends on the type of turbo and the weight of the car the heavier the car the less timing it will tolerate the lighter the car the more timing on my experience using alky injection homebuilt i ran an atr strip chip 32 degrees at wot but i ahve a stock turbo, and downpipe i ran 12.7@107 alky,kn,3inch 91octane nd chip 94k stock valve springs, stock dp 295/50/15 street tires.Stock turbo u need timing to go fast, aftermarket turbo more boost less timing .

Len.. glad ya liked it. nah man, easy way is to get a chip that's got the DC of the injectors turned way down. Thats what makes it an alky chip. So it realizes you will be adding a bunch of extra fuel into the motor.

Eric actually makes an adjustable chip that allows you to control 1st/2nd gear timing, 3rd/4th gear timing, and WOT fueling without pulling the chip out of the ecm. Drop me an email and i'll forward you instruction sheet so you can see how its done. Pretty easy.

Leave the fuel pressure alone, that way your drivability is 100%. Get a chip tailored for the kit. Plug-n-play. Easy.

BTW, werent you goin to be in this area?

Sounds about rite.. pull fuel/throw timing to make it angry.. then throw fuel/pull timing at it. Watch it pull like mad.

I totally agree with these statements above.

Tune, tune and tune. Your neighbor's will hate you for pulling in and out of your driveway or subdivision all day long, but thats the price you pay sometimes. All car's are not created equal tho.
