Just wondering what some of the Highest Hp/TQ #'s are on the 109 Block...

I dont care whats done to it....Just as long as its a 109 "Block"!!!

Lets hear what kind of #'s these things are capable of!!!;)

Thanks,Shawn:D

well, there are several 3500 lb TR's with 109 blocks running into the 9's.....that takes about 700 rwhp

Dave Bamford's 3560lb GN ran 9.57 @142mph with a 109 block and the HP calculator says he has to be making about 900hp at the flywheel which is about 800 or so at the rear wheels.... Roy Garcia is not far behind him running 9.60's @141mph with a 3450lb GN.... I'm sure we'll see more high HP 109 motors at the Bradenton event in the 109 Outlaw class (there has been talk about a 1000hp 109) :D   ;)

Yeah he is running Champion iron heads, but I'm pretty sure next year in TSM he will be using aluminum heads......

Very cool...

I was told That a 109 Block Could never see 700HP/700Ft Lbs of TQ...I of course did not believe this,The Offending Individual(List Member!!)Will need to see proof other than just me saying so...So I wanted To start this thread to give him the proof he needed...Thanks Guys!!!

What about Cotton's car???IS he running a 109??

"Lets see that CrapAss Turbo chevy Anchor 305 Put 800-900HP to the wheels/With probably I would Imagine over 1000Ft lbs of TQ... " Thats for the person the thread was started for!!! Like rubbing the dogs Nose in it after he Pee'd on the carpet...:D

We made 590rwhp with all stock internals "minus cam and pistons" at 4000 plus feet elevation and low boost.

Like Steve said Dave Bamford has about 800rwhp with forged internals. It seems the limit is your trust in the engine builder and tuner. It would be fun to see dave throw on a pt76 gts or pt88 and go for the glory!

Then I read my new HRM this weekend, where pro imports running 189 CI Toyota straight 6's, using basically stock blocks, heads and cranks, make over 1,600 HP at 40 PSI, and run 6.70s...

:D

Thanks for bringing that up.
I have been reading that as well.
I would like to know what size turbo they are running
on that car. Must be at least a 91MM to make that kind of power.
I know that those car have a clutch but how are you going to tell me you cant get a thumper 91mm or bigger to work on a 270-280 ci buick v-6 with a converter???

Those Solara's are hauling but they weigh 1900 lbs . I know a top import team that has not been able to get more than 1 run out of each engine they can swap em in like 20 minutes. Speed cost, technology ain't cheap ! I would like to see a chevy small block with some solid allan johnson heads and a 106 mm turbo i think it could make over 2200 hp if you can hold the bottom end together .;)

I went to the Pro Import drag race at Sears Point this year and they had a 3.4i Tacoma V6 block/crank/heads in a Celica that was running low 7's/high 6's. Everything else was custom but it was running twin T-76's he said pushing 30psi+. It was the Turbonetics car and the crew chief said the maintenance is minimal on the engine once they got the tune down.

They did campaign the Toyota V8 with twin turbos the previous year and it was outlawed so they went to the V6 and make only slightly less power.

The heads apparantly flow like gangbusters and obvoiusly the bottom end can hold the power in these import monsters.

A local guy with 100% stock 109 longblock (stock heads/cam etc) with upgraded $40 valvesprings, TE-64 turbo, 50lb MSD injectors, PTE FMIC, 3" downpipe, dual 3" exhuast, 100 octane and a few gallons of 116 to be safe, 22* timing with LT1 MAF and Translator, 29psi boost made 526rwhp/658rwtq on the dyno. Car weighs 3850lbs and has run mid 11's@120mph I believe on a mellow 60ft launch. Has been runnning this combo for a few years with no problems whatsoever.

Yeah the two Solaras were built by Bullish Motor Racing http://www.bullishmotorracing.com/race_cars.htm

I honestly would like to know how many passes those motors last before they have to be rebuilt or changed.... It is still very impressive IMO how fast they are running (even if they only weigh 1900lbs) and it just goes to show that Toyota really did a great job with the 2JZ-GTE motor.... Also, FWIW I'm sure the heads are ported but it doesn't take much to make them flow like a mofo because they are 4V heads!

Here is a vid of one of those Solaras running the first 6 second pass....

The heads on those Solaras are VERY ported. They are done by a very talented guy out of New Jersey.

Yeah I guess when you want to run in the 6's even 4V heads have to be heavily ported.....

Taffy, you seem to have a good amount of knowledge about the imports so I was wondering if you could tell me what you think about the Nissan RB26DETT (Skyline) motor..... I'm pretty sure it is a 2.6L I6 motor, but I don't know much else about it...... Is it as strong as the Toyota 2JZ-GTE?? Are there any Skyline's or other cars running 6's with an RB26DETT motor (stock block and crank)?? Just curious cause it seems that the import boys down here like to argue about which motor is better or I've heard they are about the same as far as durability and performance....

TIA:)

I guess the world truly is coming to an end........

how in heavens name could a question about the 109 block be turned into a discussion of ricer blocks????

Go make yourself a cool box for your IC and have a beer (or maybe 10 depending on your mood):D ;)

BTW, it's not my fault cause Mr. Strikeeagle is the evil man that mentioned ricer blocks!:p

WTF is a Solara?

(sounds like a disease you don't wanna catch)

I think I'll make a coolbox for my beer......

Don't know what a Solara is and you might be right about it being a disease..... A cool box for your beer is a good idea!
