well guys i need some advise on what numbers to buy as far as motor oil the brand i dont need i have been using valvoline but having only 15000 miles on my rebuilt motor i want some good advise on what sae to use ?10W what? any advise would be appreciative i want to keep this engine running good for as long as i can thanx

I have watched this thread over the past four years and I can give you some advice. Pick a synthetic oil and stay with it. The bottom line is that there are only three manufacturers of synthetic oil in the U.S and they resell it to all the other companies who put their own label on it and profess that it it better. This is the same B.S that people thiink that a brand name in gasoline mkes a difference. Been in the this industry for over 17 years and brand name means squat. Just change your oil regularly. Brad

I run thinner stuff in the winter and thicker in the summer. I stay away from synthetic because it doesn't stick to parts like conventional oil when the motor isn't started often and dry starts are not good. Mine gets started every 6 months and oil gets changed every 1,000 miles or less.

My only problem with synthetics is that I don't think GM ever made an engine seal that works.Especially when there's boost in the mix. I think my gn's motor leaks from every possible orifice.

I have historically used mobil1 15-50,but since buying my powerstroke diesel I have discovered the beauty of diesel oil.It has huge amounts of zinc and other anti-scuff additives that help those motors last so long under ridiculous loads.

Since then I've been using Delo 15-40 in most everything, and it works great. And it doesn't leak near as bad:D .

Very interesting. I'd like to know your long term results in the GN. Makes sense though. Our motors may not be under load for the same amount of time as your typical diesel but with the amount of torque for the small size of the motor, I bet there's every bit as much if not more stress when we go WOT.
