Has anyone with a hot air modified the stock manifolds/crossover/piping and move the turbo up front. Obviously using electric fans too, I'm just wondering if anyone with a welder has done this and if it would be cheaper than converting to 86/87 setup/accessories and all of those things.

It's just something I thought about, I don't have the means to do anyt of the above, just figured I'd ask.

dont need to look at my set up and youll see you dont need to go that route.

I'm more wondering about ease of working on the car, not just about inter cooling it. I've never took my car apart yet but once I need to change plugs I'm sure it will suck.

i never took my car aprt my self it was the first time this weekend. and it all went smooth. you should be fine mine its just really the turbo and the intake thats go to come off.

i was contemplating relocating my turbo this weekend and was measuring the space between the motor and f-body rad and fan assembly. i think it would work, just fabricating for the up and down pipe etc and installing a drain in the pan, i already have the 87 intake.
let us know if you make any progress on it

I think the biggest issue with moving the turbo, is unless your actually going to re-fab the headers and stuff, the 86/87 style of turbo location interfears with the AC/Alt bracket. switch to the 86/87 bracket unit and its a piece of cake drop in. See what we know about the hot air engine is that exhaust is not the problem, the intake is. SOO with that in mind, why not fab an adapter to place the turbo on top of the 86/87 intake? and retain some of the factory component location but improve its top end breathing capabilitys? or even a weiand 4bbl intake? why re-engineer the wheel when you just need to correct the problem.

like he said make it look like i did with the 87 intake...
