’87 Ltd. Drone is too much & wanted Magnaflows. Don't want to replace the whole system.. Nothing would fit without re-doing pipes. What are these GMs mufflers that are on the car now, and any ideas what to replace them with that will fit? Mufflers are straight through & small. 3 3/4” high, 8” wide, 12” long.

Here is some good information.

Magnaflow makes a center in/ center out muffler that’s 5”x 8” but is 14” long.
The corner could be cut off and a plate welded on to make it fit.
Maybe trimming the tailpipe and the inlet/ outlet pipe would help.
I’m assuming the pipes are 2 1/4”.

Vibrant makes some ultra quiet resonators that may work as well.
This one is 4 3/4”x 6 1/2”x 9 3/4” long.
A pipe will have to be added to the front side for length, and move the resonator to the back. It might clear without cutting the corner off.
One of the guys ran these, but thought it was too quiet.

That's interesting stuff, and it sounds like they stuck a GNX exhaust on my Ltd.. Yes? Wish I could see the pics attached to some of the replies. I wonder if these mufflers would be worth anything to GNX owners.

It sounds like they used the ‘87 442 mufflers/ resonators on the GNX with different tailpipes to work with the GNX suspension.
Maybe replacement 442 mufflers/ resonators would be the same as what you have?
Keep in mind the straight through perforated core mufflers make more power than a turbo style or chamberd muffler.

I prefer the Borla mufflers as they seem to use a heavier more dense packing material for a deeper tone than other brands.
Many have said the XR1 race muffler sounds and performs the most like the original ATR Pitbull Power slot mufflers, but the smallest is 2.5”.
