Well from what I hear I am not alone, a lot of guys broke stuff there this weekend. I had my car set up on kill after a ride last night getting it dialed in with the race gas in it, boost turned up, slicks, man I was ready to let her rip. Pulled up and did a burn out, eased up and staged, set the trans brake and when I took off she snatched the front end up then BAM broke a rear axle, moser axle at that ! SHEEESH It just never ends lol. Was told louie broke a input shaft on a glide, John took out a head gasket, several more. Maybe the stars was just not lined up for some of us hahahahaa. Oh well, won't help to be pissed about it, s#$t happens Daniel Ray

I am curious to your normal times in the 1/4 ... thats pretty impressive to break an aftermarket axle :) ---

When you remove the axle I would like to see where it failed.

Thanks, Kip

I can't really give you a normal time, it ran 11.77 on 16lbs of boost, this was the first time I was going to let it loose with some real boost on her. I am going to pull it on out tomorrow, I will post up a pic of what the damage is. It may have had a hairline crack or something and I finished it off, who knows. Will find out tomorrow though. Just another day in buick heaven lol. Daniel Ray
ps I had the boost set up to about 24 or so, was really wanting to get a 10 sec slip this year sheeeeesh

Sorry for your break! I really wanted to come! Then again i may have broke something to!

It was only 4 feet! The unpowered roll don't count! lol The Renyolds curse of my friends strikes again!

If it's not one thing for you or Doug, it's another...lol. Wish I could have made it over to Reynolds. My g/f had to work, and sharing a car means no wandering off very far...

Did Fred and Kay make it to the event?

Fred n Kay passed us on the way. I do have a fuel reg going bad, didn't get but 21mpg going up.

pictures

Got it out, here is the carnage , also got a tooth on my ring gear so a new set of gears will go in also, may change to 3.73s since most of the tracks around here are 1/8 mile anyway. Sheeeesh:(

The lower gear will not help! Ray went 6.60's with 3.42's as did the other guy from his area....DO NOT LOWER THE GEAR RATIO!!!!!!!!

The worst part of that is your trans maybe hurt too. You should have it pulled apart and looked at.

Scott

Scott, hope I am good on the tranny, I didn't have it boosted up much at all and with the stage right in it it could shift to second anyway if it needed to but as soon at it went bam I was off the gas instantly so I hope it didn't hurt it. I have the chunk out of it right now obviously so I may drop it in gear tomorrow and just let it spin easy to make sure the tranny is ok. Daniel

Knew I wouldn't sleep tonight if I didn't check it out, went up to the shop and dropped her in gear so it would spin the pinion gear out back. Went right up thur the gears perfect no clanging etc. The tranny I wasn't really worried about but peace of mind deal lol. I know Brian Hofer doesn't build junk ! The only draw back is now I am into a rear end because of it lol, its all your fault Brian ! hahahahhaha. Hey crap happens so it isn't going to get me down and you don't break moser axles with a wimp motor. When you start running power you WILL find the weak link and I did , thats just racing

((6.72))---leave the gear alone Danny.:D

I do have a fuel reg going bad,

rebuilt mine early in the month from kirbans, kit was $25 i changed the diaphram.

The Renyolds curse of my friends strikes again!

Dont remind me thats why i didnt go,(no money) I would have went up there for a vengeance, I might would have won but that track would have had the last laugh.....:D I really do like the hook though. i was gonna try something different, oh well there's always ADEL.

Sorry for your break! I really wanted to come! Then again i may have broke something to!

Yeah, tell me about it; from last year i still havent replaced my ring gear (two teeth missing like Danny's pick above) and everynow and then i still hear a CLANG in shift from park to drive,, dont know if its related though but i bet it is. Im lookin at STRANGE axels somewhere around tax time/ may change the gears too but back to 3.42.

Danny all i can say is you should have started out small first.. even though
usually our first pass usually be our best, lately. By the way what splines did you count on your axles? how long have they been on the car? what launch boost/rpm did you try to leave at? my last pass i was gonna try a 15!!! GLAD I DIDNT.

Daniel,
I broke my trans this weekend also. The car spun 100 foot out then, pedaled, spun again, peddaled and broke the trans on the shift. I busted off a few passes but nothing stellar other than a 167 MPH trap speed at 25 PSI

Sounds stellar from where I am sitting!

Sorry to hear about the axle breaking :frown:

Hang in there, it's worth it when it comes together!!!!

Daniel,
I have seen what Scott mentions a few times.
With a ring gear failure, bad things can happen to the trans. If it acts up at all let me know. Your damage does not "appear" to be to bad. Usually when the ring gear itself goes, there are "issues".

Brian

Brian thats what I am thinking also, it broke the shaft on the outside edge of the chunk so if anything it just burned my posi clutches I would think. The chip on the gears could have done been there for no telling how long. Will be a while till I get her back now being because of slow buiness I can shoved out today being the new guy. When it rains it pours Daniel
