Trying to enable open loop idle, but cannot get to that set of parameters. the a/c and light switch opetions work fine, but it always thinks i am in drive and not park. is there a way to fix this or jump it so that I can go into these options

Park/Reverse/Neutral switch may need to be switched/adjusted. Look at your scan tool and slowly go from park to 1. See if it changes.

near the column, at the firewall, somewhere to the right or left.

I'm vague, cuz I can't remember.

You can also trace the linkage in the engine bay (from the tranny linkage) to the steering column. That rod that travels up the firewall to the column is connected to the PRN/Safety switch.

Ya, all the shifter linkage needs to be in full operation and properly adjusted. All the way up to the steering column!!!! When you move the shifter, does the collar on your steering column just in front of the wheel rotate???

BTW, there's no adjustment to speak of on the N safety switch. The adjustments have to be made under the car at the rod attachment point.
