there's a new thread in "Member's Rides and Family and Friends" about someone's NA '81 Regal. it looks like a really clean, nice car.
As I was looking at the pictures, they reminded me of another early 80's Regal I used to see all the time out at the street races back in the early 90's. there was a group of guys (3 or 4 of them) that used to show up with this grey Regal. they would go pull an SBC out of the junk yard, give it a cheap rebuild or stab it in as-is, and go street racing.
the fun part was, they had a 150 hp nitrous plate system in the car (maybe it was bigger than that, I never was sure) and they'd show up with slicks mounted on plain black steel rims on the rear and some kind of stock GM wheels up front. I think they had a built TH350 with a pretty high stall converter and a pretty stout rear-end. I never saw or heard about them having any problems with anything other than the engine. They'd show up and race the *snot* out of it until the engine blew up then go back to the junk yard and pull another SBC - sometimes it'd be a 305 and sometimes a 350 - it was whatever they could get their hands on cheap and easy. they'd be back ready to race the following weekend.
