Just got back from a few days in Pigeon Forge. We left Friday afternoon and arrived there about 9 PM. We booked reservations at the Timber Log Motel. It looked nice On-Line abd seemed nice outside. My wifes parents had been down there since Wednsday night and met us there. We quickly unpacked the van and left our stuff in our room. We wanted to do a little walking around and there was a kiddie ride place next to the hotel. We thought it would be nice to let our son play for a while and ride some rides. We didn't notice much about the room just unloading the van. The room seemed clean, and smelled alright. We got a suite with a kitchen and whirlpool tub to "unwind" in. We returned later Friday evening and started to settle in. I pulled my shoes off and quickly noticed that the bottoms of my socks were turning black quickly. Hmmm. The couch pulled out into a bed and that where our son was to sleep. When we pulled out the bed we found a condom wrapper under the couch....O.......K.... Hmmm. Well someone had a little fun.
My son climbed up on the couch bed all excited he was going to sleep there, and we was trying to get him down till we got the sheet on the matress. Plus we didn't know how clean the matress was at this point. Then I noticed it. Ohhh my Lord... My wife was about to flip out when she saw this.. We were standing at the head of the couch bed on opposite sides when I looked at her and said "Tara, look on the frame of the bed at the head of the bed"
There hung the USED condom that the wrapper belonged to. It was so old the "stuff" in it had turned brown. I'm not trying to be gross, but this is a fact. My wife indeed flipped out. I went to the front desk and explaned to the guy down there what I had just discovered. He apologized and gave me the card to another room. He said they usually didn't check the couches..I told him maybe they had better start. We moved to the room next door which was a little better. Carpets still filthy, mold under the A/C unit, big patched cracks in the ceiling, cigarette butts on the carpet next to the night stand even though it was a non-smoking room, counters sticky and stains in the chairs.. All this for 120.00 a night??? We survived the two nights. I went the next morning after the first night and the manager said she had done all she could do for me since they moved us. However when I checked out yesterday morning I refused to sign the credit card slip and told them I was going to dispute the charges, post my experience, and contact the board of health. I checked my credit card today and put the charges in dispute. I have also posted my experience on tripadvisor.com
I didn't know about that site till after the fact. Anyone have an idea of anything I could do next?
I tried to post pictures but couldn't figure it out.
George

Bummer. You spent good money. I usually go for the higher priced rooms too.

I'm a germafobe and all that woulda freaked me out!

Looks like they may rent those rooms out by the hour.

George, That is horrible to hear! It just so happens that i work in Pigeon Forge at Dollywood and i don't see post's like this very often. I can help you in the future choose a better motel/hotel. There is a couple nice ones that my family and friends stay in and next time (if there is one?) Please contact me and i would be glad to help you out. I belong to a car site called Muscle Rides and we hold a "Run Thru The Hills" event here every year in september and it's with alot of the pro-touring guys and they all stay at (Main stay suites) and it's a beautifull place with great compliments. and Bill Howell who is the site owner also lives right here in Pigeon Forge and is also on the Pigeon Forge board of directors. He is a BIG car guy and i think he might be able to help you out or tell you what else could be done. You might have to register there and send him a PM or post it in the general section about your experiance and i'm sure Bill will respond with help. I hope that experiance don't keep you away from a wonderfull car orriented place like this. Scot w.

That is a shame to hear. I have also has some bad experiences in pigeon forge during Rod Run. I have always had the best experiences with the larger hotel chains where they are serious about maintaining their reputations.

A few years ago, 60 minutes did an expose' of motel/hotel housekeeping. They went into some of the best motels out there with a light that would expose dried liquids and stains (ultra-violet?). Anyway, every single motel they went into the rooms were covered in sperm and other stains. It was on the beds, floors, bathrooms, dressers, nightstands, etc. How it got in some of these places, one can only imagine.
The point was that even the best motels were covered with bacteria and body fluids that are invisible to the naked eye.

Thanks for the replies. I looked today and my post is now on tripadvisor.com.
It seems to be a pretty neat site. Some of the reviews of this place is pretty close to mine, some people love it. Wonder how they live? This will not keep me from going back to Pigeon Forge. I saw the report about a black light exposing spoof stains in motel rooms. I bet this place would have lit up! I didn't touch the remote or phone. There was some pretty shiney spots on the walls in places. I appreciate the offer to help me find a good place to stay the next time Scot W. We come down once a year sometimes twice. We have stayed in cabins most of the time. We stayed at a cabin owned by wildflower rentals on our honeymoon back in 96. I thought it would be neat to get the same cabin on our 5 year anniv. in 01. I was able to rent it. I was so excited. When we got there the place had really run down, plus they didn't change the sheets from the last couple that had stayed there. They had a lot of fun in that bed. I called the office and they promised to bring new bed shhets and a spread, which they never did and the office closed. I went the next day and demanded another cabin, which we got. Everywhere else was booked up so we had to stay with them. I just don't know what it is with us, Pigeon Forge and spoof.
