A engineering buddy of mind who is a big gear head too designed this 5 speed shifter. To shift you slam this thing foward and back as hard as you want. nothing side to side. It just works awesome. It was refreshing to see something that was so high quality compared to the mass produced junk you usually see. here is a link to the sight.

the guys is kinda small now but with stuff like this, he will be growing fast.

i would have to say, from experience owning many manual trans cars, that this gets my vote for the best new product of 2005!

Can you downshift with it also? Or is this a straighline racer only deal.

Very nice machine work either way.

Looks great. Would like to know how it works (drag upshift only? road race?)

I assume you did the machining of the parts Jason?

Craig Liberty has had a set up like that for awhile now, close the the same quality. Long Engineering has one also, but not as nice, have never heard of one breaking either. are those his only products at this time?. nice workmanship. he should advertise in FSC Mag

Makes me want to scratch the 4L8E plans and go with a 5 Spd.....
It'd be nice to be rich enough to do both, and see which would be the most fun.

My father has an old T-handle Hurst shifter in his Mustang (4 speed, Toploader) that shifts like that. Just bang it forward and back. If you miss a shift you're and idiot. On his at least on the 2-3 shift there's a small "T" at your finger tips that drops down. just pull it back up to go back to first or second. Reverse is a small lever at the base of the stick. Not too sure how that works. Prob does that so I can't get it out of the garage ;)

I have not driven a car with this shifter so i don't know if you can downshift but I think that is what the lever is for, pull it and slam it and it shifts down. Don't touch the lever and slam it and it shifts up. I'll check into it. You can always call the number and ask him.
