Thought I’d throw together a little how to project to show how to save a few bucks when needing to replace the discontinued NOS left cornering light. The project began with a NOS chrome light and the need for a black one.
Materials need;
1. NOS GM chrome cornering light (left side)
2. SEM’s Trim Black 39143
3. Hacksaw blade
4. Spot sand blaster
5. 400 Grit Sand paper
6. Bulldog adhesive promoter
7. Quick Set epoxy
Step1. The light needs the chrome trim ring removed for prep. I used a hacksaw blade to cut the 4 taps on the back corner of the light so the trim could be removed.
Step 2. Lower the pressure to the blaster to 30psi not to damage the plastic trim ring, and then completely blast the entire chrome area of the ring with fine grade blasting sand.
Step 3. After blasting, sand area to be painted with 400 grit paper.
Step 4. Apply two light coats of the Bulldog adhesive promoter, per directions.
Step 5. Apply a very light even coat of the SEM’s Trim Black 39143, waiting 15 mins and apply a second coat, wait ten more min to apply a fairly wet and final coat.( don’t run the paint)
Step 6. After paint is completely dry replace ring back to lens and epoxy tabs back together.
