also thiefs (some) are not stupid. if they know you have an alarm with a shock sensor,they will trip alarm (shock sensor) and hide. they will do this over and over a few minutes apart untill you believe something is wrong with alarm and turn it off!
ive had a customer this has happened to. i re-checked alarm,everything was good.told him to watch his truck if that ever happened again.he fixed the problem

do the lo-jack early warning system, i have it it's the only chance you have of getting your car back, my cousin is a police officer who has his unit with the lo-jack tracking system and he loves it, he's recovered plenty of cars and has arrested plenty, he told me they usually dump the car after they steal it to see if it has lo-jack, i got it , i got 2 alarms one by gm -you have to imput a 5 digit code within the first 10 seconds of the doors opening, or if you open it without the key, i have a closed circuit camera( infrared ) a 500 watt flood light ( want to make sure i shoot with enough light :biggrin: , )
the camera was only $100bucks and yes lo-jack is $1k but when you got x amount of dollars invested $1k seems like nothing.

While, I too pack a little bit o' heat, I also have te column locks, ignition kills, fuel kills, a locked garage and a few unfriendly dogs.


rwrows: DO yourself a favor and at least get the colum lock, maybe swap the regular horn for a nice loud air horn rigged to your alarm and maybe some sort of super white strobe inside the cabin of the car so if someone messes with it, it's be really loud and really bright. Thieves don't like attention.

Additionally, you might consider a large dog (pound puppies are the best- a nice pit, rott, shepherd, etc). Something large and loud should do the trick.

OR if you really dont want people to steal it do what Slow Luis does (aka turbo39151, aka Turtle, aka lost one, ect ect) and just dont wash your car! People thinks its a junker cause its on jack stands and doesnt run so they just leave it alone!

I would rather recommend getting a gps type tracking system that you can track yourself than a lowjack system. We installed the lowjack out our dealership and Ive seen how those guys do it. Not impressed. But besides that, down here in San Diego, you swing by the border and hundreds of hits go off for the low-jack system. Cops cant cross the border to investigate so its useless here, maybe its better in other states though so who knows. But as for me, Id rather have a gps style alarm where I could track on the net and find my own car! Its not that I dont trust the cops, heck my wifes a Sheriff but I dont think they could do much accross the border! Just my two pennies!

Those pics aren't near my house, but they are somewhat close to Mt. Airy. The one is on Midvale Avenue, which I'm sure you know. Anyway, keep 'em coming guys, this is good stuff. I'm hoping to free a spot up in my garrage, and start putting it in there after hearing the horror stories.

I live in Phila and had a 66 Pontiac stolen twice (recovered both times in pieces). A friend had his TR stolen off his apt. parking lot (Haldeman Av.). He parked it in front of a boulder with a car behind. They moved the boulder. Bottom line, if you don't want it stolen, a garage. Otherwise, I would recommend that if you leave it on the street, have your wife sleep in the car. This way, if the car is stolen, they also get your wife so it is not a total loss*.

*PS:Also as a bonus, when interviewed by the lawyers for jury duty (voir dire), I am always rejected because I have been a victim of a crime.

How often are these cars stolen?

All too often.

Back in 1995 when I first got my license we bought a 1986 Olds Cutlass from my cousin. It was just a silver on silver 2 door coupe with a 307 Olds boat anchor...nothing special.

My cousin kindly informed me someone had tried to steal it.....twice.

I didn't have it long enough to find out how much thieves liked it. (auto accident) But at the time I learned it was a common car to be stolen.

Now 10 + years later it seems like they're still a hot car....alongside the Regals and their turbocharged brethren.

be careful guys of stating exactly what anti-theft devices you have on your personal car. Some car thieves are pretty smart and can use modern technology to target you. I won't state mine but will say I have several layers of protection.

And insurance for a daily driver TR doesnt exist. I dont care what you guys say. There is none. And all these alarms? You guys obviously dont live in a bad neighborhood. NOONE hotwires cars anymore guys. You must live in the country. They tow em. I dont know where you guys live, but you can put all sorts of alarms on your car, and carry 2 9mm's, it's still getting towed whether you like it or not. And that lojack crap is worthless too. By the time the signal hits anyone of consequence, it'll already be stripped. I promise that. Doubt me? Park a nice regal down here on 7 mile in detroit, and walk away for 15 minutes. See if that lojack gets your car back...

On top of that, any fool can build a freq jammer from parts at radio shack, and a MINUTE working knowledge of cb's and RF. I could render your gps totally worthless if I wanted to. The only way to keep that car, is to NOT use it as a daily driver, and to keep it in the garage. Besides, why in the HELL would you keep a 69 elky, 69 coupe deville rag top, 77 coupe, 71 monte carlo, 70 tempest daily beater straight six, 82 chevy work truck, and an 86 gmc work truck in the garage, but not a turbo buick?? That dont make a lick of sense lol. Park a HIGHLY stolen, one of only a few thousand made, on the street, but some old beaters in a garage? I dont know about you, but that will be gone inside of a year if you use it as a DD. Dont do it man. I dont want to see you lose that beautiful car. And the insurance... if you use it as a DD, be prepared to take a HUGE loss after an accident, while using normal insurance. Though, you mentioned that you have a garage, but no driveway.... How is that.
