Family wants to but a new or used pull behind camper. Do any of you guys have experience with these? Ive been told to stay away from popup campers as they are hard to cool (ac) in extreme heat? We have been looking for about a month now at travel trailers and there are just too many floorplans and makes to decide on. Any manufactures I should stay away from? Thanks

If your going big get a 5th wheel, they are alot easier to tow around than a travel trailer. If you buy a used one make sure the rubber roof is good and dont leak.

I don't know squat about campers, but this is a good time to ask you if you guys are having a BBQ this year. I seem to find out after they happen. You guys must not like me. :)

Properly equipped it says your Commander can tow 7200lb load so that gives you an idea at least as to what you can roughly handle unless your looking to buy a tow rig also.

I would probably lurk around or join a camping forum if you can find a decent one. My parents have a 2010 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel and they are happy with it.....Although it sits on a year round site and doesn't get pulled anywhere. Before that a used 2003 Citation that was also a good trailer and never had a problem with it.

We debated this for a few years and ended up in a used Class A rv. Seems like everybody we talked to that had a pop-up hated it or wanted to upgrade. We looked at travel trailers, but my 1/2 ton SUV is (14) years old and anything over 25' probably would have pushed it, wasn't looking for a new truck and I don't like towing a long trialer from the reece hitch. Next choice would have been a fifth wheel, but would have required a new truck, maybe we'll go that route in a few years.

We looked at several used Class A's and found the perfect one off season. The kids love it, lots of room and easy to setup once you get to the campground. Easy to pull something behind as well (tow car, golf cart). Fun to drive too....you can find them about (10) years old with a slide for around $20k and under, most of them with the Ford V10's. Class C's are nice too. As stated before, check the roof & tires. Good luck!

Thanks for the replys! Im not aware of a picnic this year but it would be cool to all get together. We can always meet at my pad if enough guys were interested. I think were gonna go with a 28foot 5600lb travel trailer with a slide. Im gonna pull it with my GMC 1500 5.3 hope thats not too much for it.

If it's not a 5th wheel, please use a weight distribution hitch if you haven't considered it, one with an anti-sway option. Flush your trans every 25K, adjust your trailer brakes properly, and keep tabs on your trucks brakes.
