need converter and rebuild kit

I need a good converter to replace my wasted D5. Where is a good converter for 300 or 400 bucks? I have heard that most of the red stripes around are fake. Where do you get real ones anyway? Bruce has a 12" for 300 bucks, is it any good?
Also, who makes the best rebuild kit around?
