I know this my completely retarded... but I have been trying to change my thermostat... removed everything but the housing that sits it into the manifold...
Is there a trick to pulling it off????
Ive been yanking at it for the past hour and nothing..
What am I not getting????

The housing spins around, it just will not pull out?

I only say asap cause I already have the woman nagging about how i promised that I would go to an early family dinner.. blah blah blah

Just keep yanking. If it's never been out before there will be 20 years of corosion holding it in. Hope you have a new housing, I destroyed mine getting it out.

Beautiful!!!
I did not want to say it but it is not so round any more...lol!!

Thats exactly what I needed to know..

Now with confidence I can yank at it like I was sixteen again!!

You can try to slip a screw driver under the lip of the o-ring retainer. Try and squirt some WD-40 aound the tube, also. You did remove the retainer and bolt, right? You can also install the upper hose and clamp and use that to help you yank it out. They can be a PAIN to get out after 20 years.

Yes i did remove the retainer bolt, I have just not have had this much trouble changing a thermostat before and I could see slowly I was messing up the housing so instead of being the brute I normally am, thought i would ask..
Great idea about the hose and clamp... Im going to try it..

i always leave the upper hose connected and disconnect the hose from the radiator. then you have the hose you can pull on.

Hi,
I doubt you are retarded, this is just a difficult removal. Try rotating as you pull it out.

A little late now, but find a large socket that's just a tad smaller than the diameter of the housing. Put it in there and use an extension/ratchet to wiggle it out with.

I find that one of these tree tools ALWAYS works well for any Turbo Regal job.....:D
