need help

Hello im wanting to buy a turbo car and i have found one and was wondering if you guys would consider this car for 8500 for some one whos clueless on a turbo car. plus he wont send pix. 1987 buick grand national project needs to be completed. $10k under the hood. new motor, steel crank, scat rods, je pistons comp cam, 1.6 roller rockers, ported/polished heads w/larger stainless steel valves.steel engine girdle w/scraper, turbonetics t66bb turbo supports up to 700 h.p. stretched stock location intercooler. 3.5 downpipe.walbro340 fuel pump and hotwire. once broke in and tuned, should go 10s easily. new tires. now for the bad- interior and body i would rate 6 to 7 out of 10. needs oil gauge, boost gauge installed and tuned before you even think about turning the boost up. boost is set at 10-12 psi (stock) but is capable of twice that once its ready. no mufflers or cat. rear main seal leak.breaks need work, heat and air needs work. it runs and drives, but very loud and will get you a ticket on the street. i bought the car 3 years ago for $6500, have put in excess of $10k in parts, and have lost interest. hope to get half out of it. $8500 can see and hear it run but i will not let it on the street until purchased. please dont message me for pics, it would do you no good. best to come see it, and hear it.

I wouldn't go near it without pictures and see it in person. Bring someone along who knows these cars. If you are new to these cars I would try to find a car that is unmodified so you can decide what mods if any you want to add. This car sounds like a money pitt.

Well that depends on how far you want to drive to see this car, or if you even want to see it. I'd be leery of anyone who wouldn't send a pic of a car they are trying to sell. Plus, who did the motor work? I'd want copies of receipts and work estimates to verify what was really done.

I wouldn't even bother. There's some nice Turbo Buicks out there right now for about that money or less.

Go to your user controls and add a location which will help others know where you are. Go to the bottom of the main forum page and say hi in your state/regional area. Spend a lot of time reading on the board about these car and the issues that they have so you know what you're getting into here. If you're not mechanically inclined or rich (not kidding here) get a modern car like a WRX STI and stay the heck away from them. You sanity will thank you.

Also if you are married you better have a very understanding wife. If you do not have disposable income these cars are not for you without a very good understanding of what will happen when you decide to turn up the boost as a newbie.

Good luck, not trying to scare you away from these cars at all, just educating you. They are not cheap to repair or modify.

I haven't spent that much on my car, but everything I've been doing I've done myself. Body repair, rust repair, frame repair, ect. I search for parts and wait until I get what I'm looking for as inexpensively as I can. I've been at it now since 07 and other than drive the car on and off the trailer I've yet to drive it. Still plugging away at it but to get one means that you're going to either hate it or love it. If you have kids and a spouse then it will even be harder on them and you so keep that in mind. I'm not married or have kids or even a girlfriend so it doesn't really matter, but if I did then I would say I'd be very screwed and the car would be gone by now.
