ok, i have some spark issue of some sort, at around 5500 it soundes like a rev limiter but its not that as the msd which is back on the car is not setup for a rev limiter, its a smooth hard pull until the rpm hits, its as new engine from Weber with Big stuff version 1 which is still similiar to big stuff 3 I found out, Ive replaced 4 sets of different spark plugs, from ar 103s to NGK 6 and bk7s all with same results, ive swapped ignition mods and coil packs and still nothing, besides plug wires(which are 10mm aftermarket ones which I doubt are bad) I NEED HELP, could it even be in the big stuff holding it back or something mechanical inside the motor setup

I know this may not have anything to do with your problem BUT I just removed a GEN 1 Big Stuff 3 and went to a SD chip from Eric. Worlds better!!! What's your rev limiter in the BS3 set at?

If it runs fine till it hit's 5500rpm, I would take a close look at the valve springs. The beehive springs are notorious for this. It's easy enough to tell by pulling a valve cover.

wouldnt I have to re-wire to use a chip from big stuff version 1? and i have no idea what the rev limiter is at but i asked the guy whos tuning and said it was not set, ill ask again, 2. I do have GN1 heads on a race stroked build from Weber racing, all it says on the sheet is performance springs, guess ill have to call them!! are they called Beehive springs?

hey turbo burick, these new heads were from champion, you knew if they use those type of springs, i just used what was given

I didn't have to do much wiring. Just whatever was called for on the SD chip. Not bad at all. What lifters and cam do you have? I believe the T/A - Morell lifters are not up to the task of high rpm. My engine doesn't pull past 5500 rpm and I have a pretty stout spring and a 218/218 cam. Mine should pull to 6000 easy.

ok guys the springs are 450lbs and the correct match for my 224/224 cam, the shims were off but I was told that wouldnt cause my issue, so unless the rockers were tightened to much(which again is doubtful) im lost!!! Im putting on the bailey ignition system as well after the springs are redone and checked but im VERY VERY concerned that after all the BS there still might be a problem, im losing my patience and ready to give it all up after this, or who to contact cuz so far Cal has offered no ideas either

Have you tried a different set of plug wires? I had some magnecores do the same thing years back. They were old. Is this strictly rpm related or is it at a certain boost level? How much boost? What fuel? Fuel pressure verified good? Cam sensor timed/phased correctly? What is the O2 correction right before the engine starts acting up?

My experience w/MSD, Champion heads, Beehives, [26918?], FAST....All on my stage 2...
1. The MSD HO was sometimes a no start. I just put the bypass plug in, and WALA, no more issues. [Yours an HO??]
2. The so called "race" heads, had springs on them that were absolute junk..Some were <100# on the seat. [These were new when I put them on. Car was a street car, and had <1000 mi's on it.] The engine was lazy and ran "out of steam" at about 55-5800. That's when the Beehives, retainers, locators were installed. MPH went from 134-136 to 142...No other changes, other than the springs.
3. Magnecores were ?? I went to Taylors.
4. I pulled the plug gap down to .026.

FAST had issues w/ the MSD. I'm wondering if there's a compatibility problem w/ the early BS1???
AIRC, the MSD is pretty much out of the "picture", once engine speed goes over 3000, and you basically have whatever the main ign will support.

Back under my rock:D

I have been told that the Big Stuff 3 gen1 and gen 3 don't see eye to eye with the stock Buick crank sensor by a very knowledgable Buick engine builder/racer.

Please give me a call and refresh my memory and I'll try and give you some ideas. I don't remember selling Webber a BS3 or even helping with one

ok guys, 1 i got new plug wires now too and will see if that fixes anything with the bob bailey ls style coilpack setup, the MSD took a dump again and will no longer need or use it with the new setup for ignition, when I bought the car it had gen 1 BG3 with everything that is on it now minus the new champion heads(which should only help) the car pulled into the mid 6000 rpm range plus, as far as gap i have tried like 20ish 23 and 26 now, have I have tried 5 different sets of plugs from ngk 6s, 7s and autolite 103r's, i had the tune shop pull the springs and tested and they are the correct springs for the cam in the car. 3. thanks cal I will call again, I had my shop send some stuff and called and there was no info.

answering other ?s
Is this strictly rpm related ....yes at about 5500ish .... or is it at a certain boost level? no....... How much boost? is about 20 until i get a tune then may up it a bit pending What fuel? double pumper and i thinkg 83lbers and fuel is PERFECT until the rpm area is doesnt drop at all...................... Fuel pressure verified good? yes............. Cam sensor timed/phased correctly? now this 1 I am unsure >>>?>??????? What is the O2 correction right before the engine starts acting up, yes o2s and AFR are all good

Update, the bob bailey ignition fixed my problems, not sure what was bad or not up for the task but I got spark and boy is its nice, now though after getting spark its running very high boost(easy fix with a different spring) and somehow stop blowing drivers side header gaskets, up around 600 horsepower with about 6000 rpm on high boost with no timing
