Was wondering if anyone here had a good current part number for an alternator of at least 120 amps, that doesn't have to be "clocked" or re-worked, or holes opened up or anything. I was looking for a TRUE, drop in part. An alternator that is EXACTLY the same as the stocker, but with at least 120 amps. I also have the old (from 05 I think) Kirban cooling fan option (the all black plastic one from the 3rd gen regal alternators) and I was wondering if the replacement didn't have this fan, could I retrofit this on to it?

This write up said that the replacement alternator from the newer cars idle at around 30 amps higher output. So will this then increase the fuel pump rpm's at idle and make the car idle super rich? Or does the ecu see this, and cut the injector pulse width to compensate.

No. Amps are not volts.

Go to Autozone and get a direct replacement with a lifetime warranty for ~$120. :)

Roger. Looking for new though. I don't trust the little 12 year old mexican/chinese kids doing my reman projects. Lookin now as we speak. I was looking at this: ACDELCO Part # 3351226 {#19298378} Professional
120 Amps from Rock Auto.

But I was considering the cooling fan. The one from Rock Auto has the old school original on there and they say it's not as good as the newer cooling fans. Can I just swap out the cooling fans by taking the nut off and doing a simple swap? Is it that easy?

If you think the "original" AC Delco is made in the USA, not China or Mexico, you probably have not purchased many GN parts lately?

Believing what Rock Auto states on their web site would be also believing in the tooth fairy, I have returned a few parts from there, but maybe the alt would be different.! :)

Since my cars go through alts rather rapidly like every few years, I fine it MUCH easier to drive a few blocks to get a free replacement than deal with a remote source. ;)

What little I know about replacement parts for GN's comes from purchasing about $2-3K worth every month?

No, I know that stuff is made overseas now, but at least it's new stuff, and made in a factory set up to make that sort of stuff. And yea, I'm going to do a local parts house version now, so when it goes tits up I can just exchange it. Though why are you going thru alternators every few years? What are you doing to them?

look in the yellow pages (or the online equivalent) and find a local electric motor rebuilder... take the alternator there and get it rebuilt and upgraded. if it dies on you, it's easy to take it back and have them fix it.

My Remy from Advance Auto lasted 1.5 years. Oreilly checked it and said the voltage regulator failed. It seems fine until I turn on the brights, A/C, etc. and then volts dipps into the 11's. Lifetime warranty, but before I found the receipt I ordered a new one from Kirban, who says his has the correct pully. Not sure what pully the Remy has but I think I am using a smaller belt than stock. Anybody know if the pully can be an issue? Anybody have any experience with Kirban's alternator?

Until the pulley on my factory original remy alt decided to break in the center a few months back, it worked great.
Because it didnt throw the belt with the pulley still resting on the alt driving spindle the huge nut screws onto, i was able to limp the car over there and had changed it out in their parking lot. It had made alot of noise cause the blades on the alt were being rubbed on by the pulley that was no longer properly attached, which is why i had to be extremely careful on the way over to the parts store, Wished i could of just had replaced the pulley, but most places don't do that and couldn't get to a pick a part place to grab one.
Unfortunetly because i couldn't buy the pulley for the alt, had to replace the whole alt with an ultima brand 120 amp alt from o'reilly's but haven't had issues out of it yet.
