I'm trying to learn the best techniques for maintaining my new paint job. I'm finding out it isn't easy trying to maintain shiney black paint! When I picked the car up from the body shop the paint was flawlessly machine polished with hardly a swirl or scratch to be found anywhere. After washing my car for the first time everything went to hell. I noticed the car had the usual streaks from drying and the shine had dulled somewhat. I was real careful and used Meguiars car soap for the wash and used "The Absorber" which is kind of like a synthetic type of towel for drying. However, I still managed to get several light surface scratches in the clear and noticed a little bit of hazing of the paint. It seems that no matter what I use on the car for drying it leaves light surface scratches in the clearcoat. I tried applying a coat of polish to the car to remove the scratches and some of the hazing that developed from washing the car. Even after careful polishing with microfiber towels some of the scratches were removed but I still have surface scratches that can be seen from certain angles. The scratches aren't real noticeable in the sunlight but in the garage under artificial light it seems the scratches are everywhere. It's driving me nuts. I don't much care for the idea of having to polish the car every single time I wash it! What do I need to do?

Remember this: All items that touch your paint MUST be clean. This means
washmitts
"the Absorber"
any wax/polish applicators
any 3M or Maguires (only) micro fiber towels. (there are others out there, NONE that can be bought at an auto parts store. DON"T USE THE LIGHT BLUE OR PASTEL YELLOW ONES - they will scratch the paint. I use the 3M ones exclusively, I just trust them and they've never let me down)

That's it. All the stuff has to be clean clean clean...
Another thing, you will NEVER be able to avoid the little micro scrtches...you just can't.
If the paint is hazing, that's dye back, it will need to be wetsanded and buffed again...wait at least 60 days or more before having it buffed...the longer you wait the better. It is a result of the paint fully curing. doesn't happen all the time but it is most noticable on dark cars.
