Need some explination of inspection and emmisions in Houston

I know nothing about this since i just moved here. I have some general questions not just related to my turbo car.

Do you have to have emissions test, emissions inspection on diesels? In the Indiana counties that had emmisions testing you did not did the diesel vehicles. So if I was to buy a GM truck with a blown up 6.5 diesel I could swap in any engine I wanted to and not have to worry about passing the test. I want to swap an LS into a 90's 3/4 ton chevy in place of a blown up 6.5L but I don't want to be hassled about the emmisions or whatever.

Next question is the inspections. What do they actually inspect and look for? The windshield is cracked on my 2011 impalla but it is down near the bottom out of the line of sight is that going to be a problem?

Go to Texas DPS and look up requirements for a vehicle inspection. A cracked windsheil won't be a fail but if the wipers leave a streaking effect because of windsheild damage it won't pass. They can't flunk you for the windsheild or tell you that you need 1 but if the wipers can't or don't contact the windsheild fully thin it will flunk.

Yeah the wipers still work fine. Do you know about if a diesel vehicle has an emmisions inspection?

I had read the DPS website a few months ago, I still had the question about the windsheild and the diesel vehicles after reading it.

If it's OBDII then it may have to be hooked up to the machine but I don't think so. If it's OBDI then it's just a safety inspection.

Diesel trucks do not require emissions but if you swap in a gas engine then the law would probably require emissions testing. I believe gas engine vehicles need to be 24 yrs or older to be emissions exempt.
