I was driving my GN around last weekend when I got the dreaded "sneeze/cough" and it died. Luckily I was close to the house and coasted down the hill and it the garage. I need some local help to try and diagnose the problem this weekend. I am getting married on June 5th and the GN is suppossed to be our mode of transportation. I am out of town for work next week so this weekend is really my last to fix it. If anyone has an extra coil pack laying around that's good and I can use to troubleshoot with, I would appreciate it. If anyone else has any other suggestions shoot them my way. PM me for contact info. I am in Parma Ohio.

Thanks

So i take it the car wont start since your asking for a ignition coil? Do you no fot sure there isnt any spark, how bout injector pulse? Do you have any diagnostic equipment? This weekend i have to work which probably wont help you. Next weekend i dont i no thats cutting it close but i live in willoughby I own a 87 and im a tech for chevrolet in aurora. Im sure theres many members on here that could help you out. But if you are still having trouble by next weekend and would like someone there to help parma is not that far from me. Tons of people on here have helped me out with certain problems on here so im always willing to give back when i can. Maybe i can be of some assistance let me no.

It won't start. I will be checking for spark tonight. I had an OTC at my mom's that I still need to pick up. I will keep you posted if I get it running. Thanks for volunteering to help.

No spark. I swapped out the coil pack with an older one I found in a box and still nothing. That one is probably bad too that's why it was laying in a junk box. I'm going to run up to the store and see what they have in stock. If anyone has any suggestions call me. 216-906-8639.

Going to buy a noid light to help diagnose the issue. I think it may be the crank sensor.

Bought a noid light. Noticed my crack position sensor wasn't right so I fixed it. Hooked up the light and it flashed while I cracked the motor, still no spark. Bought a new iginition module, still no spark. I'm at a loss.

*cut and paste from the above mentioned Vortex Buick site*

No start - no spark, has injector pulse - Check the ignition module (also check the CCCI and ECM-IGN fuses)

No start - has spark, no injector pulse - Cam Sensor or ECM

No start - no spark or injector pulse - Crank sensor or module

I think the "crack" sensor only works when "cracking" the engine, not while driving it. So I don't think a bad sensor whould cause the car to die. But I could be wrong. Congrats on getting married. Worked great for me for about a year. Got divorced 7 years later.

Still working on it. It still may be a "crank" sensor issue. The noid light seems to flash inconsistently when connected to the injector harness, we'll see.

a crank sensor can go bad while driving and the car will shut of. sometimes they start back up sometimes not. do like stated above n check fuses. Just out of curiosity what was bad with the crank sensor and how did u fix it?

It looked like it came loose and the interupter blades on the crank may have knicked it. I played with it some and it seems to work intermittently. I will have to buy a new one tomorrow and check it out. The problem is many stores don't take returns on electrical parts so I may be buying parts that don't remedy the issue. Doesn't hurt to have backup parts though.
