I've heard they're quite a few transmission gurus here, so I figured you guys could help...

My 700r4 has been getting sloshy on the shifting, and I've been reading into various fixes, but lack much transmission experience. I think it may have been caused by 140k miles, improperly set kickdown, the time when the crossmember bolts popped out (only threaded in), or a combination of the three. The downshift under hard acceleration in OD slips, and the 1-2 hesitates.

What fixes/parts would you guys recommend throwing in? I doubt I can handle a rebuild, but anything I can do with the tranny in should be within my range. Maybe springs, boost valves, etc. Or would it be better to just go with full manual? Anyways, this is going to be on a shoestring budget ($40-80+).

I have an ATSG manual and the normal weekend mechanic's inventory of tools. I was planning on getting most of the parts from here, since it's the cheapest place I could find.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm. On your budget, about the only thing you could do that may help would be a valve body kit along with a fluid and filter change.

At least if your transmission continues to give problems after that, there's nothing lost. The valve body kit will still be there to enhance the transmission's performance after it's rebuilt.

A shift kit isn't really what I meant...

I was figuring a .471 boost valve, a corvette servo, springs, and whatever else I might be able to replace without tearing off too much. I would prefer a full manual valve body kit, probally TransGo, but I don't know what comes with it or how advanced the installation would be. I don't think I can put a better pump vane on, since I believe that can only be done during a rebuild.

ANother problem is I don't know which springs would be best for my application. I can provide more info about my car if needed...
