Ok I put in the CQ vb & CK shift kit with a GN gov & it shifts @ 5000. I put in a 8-32 by 1/4 in. long set screw to keep the spring in, then drilled 2--1/8 holes to hopefully offset the wt. of the screw.
If I pull out the screw will I be close to 55-5700 or will I still have to take more. I'm thinking that I'll have to take more.

Jim,
Typically those will pull 5600 unmodded.
I say take the pin out and have fun with it!

Thanks Brian I'll give it a shot.

Use a nylon screw for the set screw. Home depot has them in their hardware section. It weighs less than the steel one you have.

OK took the screw out & still only about 51-5200 all shifts are about the same, cept kinda hard to tell on the 1-2, spinning tires. Just wondering if the TV limit spring could be a little weak, prob. just keep taking wt. off?
How much does a 8-32 by 1/4 set screw weigh? Couple grams?

Less than a gram after you cut it to the proper length. You need a decnt gram scale to get the governor weights where you want them. Id go with the nylon screw and remove 1.5-2 grams form the primary weight. You may need to take off an additional .5g to get what you want. Its easier to go forward then it is to go backward.

Brian, is that with the original gov? How much does putting in the brf gov change things? Not much of a trans guy but I've always heard that mixing and matching governors was a sure way to get wrong/low shift points.

Carl,
The CQ behind a Buick will go 55-5600 behind a Buick unmodded. That is with the original gov. Cars with ALOT of torque, can move this shift point up a bit.

It will more than likely be the same with the BRF gov. They are identicle in the weights, but the CZ & CQ has a spring on the large weight. Which I prefer to remove to get just a "touch" more rpm during cruising anyway. You might see 50-100 more rpm at WOT with this mod. But, seat of the pants, you would never know.

Brian

Thanks for the info, Brian. I knew ours had the one spring but didn't know the weights were the same.
