I can remember going to the track about 10-12 years ago in my GN and people saying, "yea, it's fast but it's still a REGAL." or "Yea, but it's still a 6 cylinder." ...

ghall, I don't see how a BONE stock neon is going to do 13.6 with a 100 shot of NOS. I have a bunch of Neons at NED some with NOS + mods and they barely run in the 14s. He must have got the one they put the special secret parts on at the factory that nobody knows about.

daja vue huh Mike??
Well said my friend.. I agree

The stock GN tranny is not that great either...I had mine rebuilt three times in the late 80's..and the build quality was not that much better than a neon....door handles, paint, body panels not lining up,shifter handle,ect...and most stock GN's only run low to mid 14's......you have to admit a stock or near stock GN does not own the road anymore.

If I had to rate the looks of the 3 cars:

1. SRT
2. EVO
3. WRX

All have tacky spoilers that I could do without.

Yea i agree. Ya know, the bif Fugly carbon fibre spoiler on the EVO is an option.. Something like $800. But everyone I ever seen has one. Id order it without and the EVO (IMHO) would go to the top of the list. At a car show this saturday I got to see an EVO and an SRT side by side. Both real nice and the neon has an $18 sticker .. BUT they tacked on a $5000 dealer upcharge due to its availability lol. Gotts love the dealers.. The EVO was fantastic looking. The SRT ws too. Loved the seats from the Viper in the SRT.

At a 2900 lb curb weight, it would take 270 hp from a TR @ 3500 lb curb weight to equal the power to weight ratio. Not hard but it gets exponentially more difficult to keep up as the smaller car finds more HP and torque. Say you boost the Neon up to 270 HP from 225 base (dramatic or maybe not), the TR would need 325. Kinda reminiscent of the GLH Omni. And look at the torque curve; almost flat from 3000 to 5500 which I assume is the red line based on the chart in Sport Compact Magazine. You can link the article from http:www.dodge.com in the SRT area.

The little car is a contender in it's own class. I wish there was an automatic version available with a performance TC. The only option available on the car is side air bags. Of course you can buy ashtrays, floor mats, GPS, etc as dealer installed items. I do consider it a toy car; too small for family use especially if you don't like rowing gears in traffic.

I think I'm gettin' a little old to have a pocket rocket as a daily driver, but damn, I'd still love one of those little SRTs. Awesome bang for the buck. I have respect for the rally cars as well, but I think the Dodge's pricetag would be a lot easier to swallow for a small fun car.

Well, it is a MOPAR PERFORMANCE (factory) upgrade.. Offered by the dealers.. I have a good friend that works at a large Dodge dealer and they have already installed a couple of the upgrades AND they honor the warranty.. How's that for real life.. :)

So what you are sayin' is that you've seen the stuff installed, something broke and it was replaced under warranty? I've heard the claims of "won't void the warranty", but have yet to see it in real life. That was why I am totally skeptical. When something breaks (and it will when anything is raced enough) and the warranty is honored, I'll step right in line to pick up one of these as a daily beater.
