new cam sensor install

Need some help please. Have read previous threads. Believe I have the engine at TDC following Casper's Cap install directions. Now, trying to put the new cam sensor in. Having problems getting it to fully seat. I have the dot pointing towards the passenger fender. Can't turn the ring, so gear seems to be engaged(?). Pushing with all my might, but it doesn't seem like it will seat. I put oil on the O ring. Is there a trick? Really, really would like to get the car running today as I'm off and it's been down since late last summer when this crapped out on me.
