At least it looks like they are trying to fix the problem by putting a factory hold the v8 six speed cars to figure out what the problem is.

it's probably a programming error in the traction control system- they probably apply the rear brakes more than they cut back on engine power, which results in the weakest link in the chain breaking. the simple fix wouldp robably be to get rid of the "launch control" function and maybe put on some smaller wheels that have less mass.
but this is the kind of thing that the target demographic for these cars loves- they can tell all their Mustang and Challenger driving buddies that their car has enough power to break stuff. looks like it's time for a bigger output shaft..

The transmission output shaft issue has been narrowed down to a small number of cars. It was an issue with improper hardening of the output shafts by Tremec and the problem also affects a small number of six-speed Challengers and GT500's. The production hold on Camaros has since been released.
GM has agreed to call each owner of an affected Camaro individually to outline the repair procedure, which will likely be a new transmission.
