New converter - clearance clarification

New PTC 9.5" installed, with converter pushed back into trans all the way I had less than 3/16" clearance between the flexplate and the bolt pads. Assuming this should be OK to run without using any shims between the plate and pads? Instructions say you have to pull TC out from trans minimum of 1/8" and maximum of 3/16".
