My car stopped running under normal driving conditions. This has happened periodically before. I thought a new EGR solenoid solved the problem, but apparently not.

On the side of the road, I started unplugging and plugging in different sensors to try to narrow down the problem. When I unplugged the wire from the top of the charcoal cylinder behind the driver's side headlamp, the car would run fine. When I plugged it in back, it would die.

Any ideas? What IS the sensor? Could it cause this problem? It seems to happen after rain / carwashes. There IS some water under the charcoal cylinder after a rain, so maybe the sensor is shorting? Also: will it hurt the car to drive it much longer with that sensor unplugged?

Thx in advance

Sounds like your maf is toast. To permanently solve that problem will likely require an lt1 maf and translator.

Vapor cannister and purge solenoid.

Could be a wiring problem or else perhaps a vacuum problem.

Check the vacuum check valve in the rubber line between the solenoid on top of the can and the throttle body.
