Almost forgot an important question Cam, what type of ignition control module setup were you gonna run?

With that being said I assume I cannot run what I have stock? Will i need to upgrade to MSD or something like that?

Thanks,
Cam

Yes, it's a new ECU to replace the factory unit. FAST will give you precise engine control. I was told it wasn't necessary for my car but I installed it and haven't looked back. It brings engine management into the 21st century. I always had troubles trying to adjust fueling and timing with gas pedal inputs. I'm a little tech savvy too and prefer using a laptop. A lot of guys have great success with that style technology. I really can't speak about the power logger set up though. I came into the GN game late in life and had tuned a few of my cars with HP Tuners. I'll probably be told I shouldn't have brought it up, but wanted to share another option with you from my experience. My car started out in the 14's, I set realistic goals of 12's the first year and 11's the second year. I've met both goals so far, next year is my 10 second goal. Even if my car would have stayed in the 12's I felt OK with having the FAST system installed.

Let me add, I'm not advocating the purchase of a FAST XFI for your car, I make no recommendations, just sharing my personal experience.

OhioC5, I appreciate the information on the FAST system! I will be sure to look into this. I too have tuned a few cars with the HP Tuners, and that approach was really easy. I figure a few others will chime in on whether or not this is something I will need for my car but thanks for the option, I will need to do some research on this now!

Thanks!,
Cam

Cam, I wasn't trying to push into that direction if that's how it came out. A lot of guys on here have gone really quick on the factory ECU. For me, it was just a hell of a lot easier with the newer style of tuning.

I think if you can tune with HP Tuners, you can handle SD2 or a FAST setup as well.

Its good that your still eager, and wanna learn and are sticking with all this crazy stuff so far, ive seen a lot of new young guys give up on these cars and disappear many times over the years , especially on the "other site" I was on for 10years, its good to see , take time and be patient don't jump the gun and listen to all the good ol' guys on here...

OhioC5, haha I hear you, I just like to learn about new things and I wanted to do some research and see what it was all about! You were not pushing me by any means! Thank you for your concern!

we4Mateo, thanks for the encouragement, I am still not decided on what I am going to do about that yet, I am still weighing the pros and cons.

Thanks,
Cam

Thanks V6sleeper, I am very interested in these cars and I love to work on cars in general. I am a Computer Science and Computer Engineering dual major and I have debated on switching to Mechanical Engineering several times. I think I am going to just stick with cars as a hobby though as Computers seem to be my calling. With that being said, I don't think I will be leaving this forum anytime soon! I really like it here and I have learned a ton of stuff from everyone on here! Thanks again for all of the help everyone!

Thanks,
Cam

The reason i asked that question about the ICM is some have made builds with the stock style ICM's and others have gone the route of MSD, and a few have dipped into the new TR6 technology that a few developed from this very board. Just was wondering where you direction wise with the build had considered in that aspect since spark control and such is a very vital part of the equation.

Thanks, I am leaning more towards the stock ICM at this point I believe.

After you had quoted me from the previous page of posts, i had laid out a majority of what i'd probably do to my TR with your 10K budget for a theoretical peak goal of 11.75 but realistically aim for 11.8's to 11.9's or 12 flat's to low 12's being limited to 91 octane pump gas opttions. There's a couple pieces to the puzzle that'd be alittle up in air, but that basically would of been my approach to it. It's below where you originally quoted me from one of my previous posts.

But currently she's probably a low 13 to mid 13 1/4 car. I doubt she'd do high 12's at the present, but never gone to a track to know what she'll even do presently. But she does scoot pretty good and for the most part she's been a pretty good first car for me so can't complain. One thing you'll discover is the unique bond we TR owners develop over time with these cars.
They're almost like a 4 wheel version of a GF, have to talk to them a certain way at times to coax them to be nice, need a fairly large amount of attention, can be stubborn, can easily assist you in lightening the wallet up, ETC.

I am glad that you're learning and growing through all of the feedback Cam, hope you get to see it through and you actually achieve the goals you are after without exceeding your budget.

NGK Ur5
Alky Control by Razor aka Julio
60lb injectors
TT 6.1 alky chip (wide band tracking)
Wide band
Powerlogger
TE44
2800 lock up converter
Dut neck intercooler
External trans cooler
Drag radials
Good for low 11s and a very fast street car. The tranny will give up at about low 12s and need a strong build with hard internals.
Once you are running mid 11s consistently then you can think about upgrades for longevity and/or lower ets.

Thanks guys! I really do appreciate all of the help! That parts list is quite helpful, I am going to start looking into these parts. Is there a particular place you would have the transmission rebuilt?

Thanks everyone,
Cam

Just a quick question here, I was looking online at the TE44 and I would say this is an older turbo? because precision isn't selling it anymore or I didn't see it on their website. I was looking at the PT6266 turbo, looks pretty nice, I figured this would be "overkill" for but I was thinking if I bought something like that I wouldn't have to upgrade again later. Also I wouldn't have to run it very hard to make a lot of HP. Just a thought. Ideas on this?

Thanks,
Cam

Well I talked to Kirban, apparently they kept the Scanmaster until the console switches come in, then they are going to sent them both at the same time...that kind of sucks because it will be a week, but there isn't anything I can do. Ohh well it isn't that big of a deal. :(

Is that the TE 44 by Garrett or Precision? When I google it I found results for both?

Thanks,
Cam

Put the car on the road and hope that the can worms ...nevermind ..just keep it simple young'n and see what kind of abuse it takes:)
