i dont at all mean to be rude or anything....

but what was wrong again with taking the turbo to the hardware store with you and fitting up the correct sized bolts?

I brought my ITS 70DBB to the hardware store (it happened to be woodhaven lumber) to get new 8.8 grade downpipe studs and brand new stainless steel nuts for 3 bolt header flange. Took me all of 5 minutes in the store to find the correct hardware that i needed.

I just dont understand the reasoning for starting a thread about the size of bolts...

Well I guess we just don't see eye to eye on this issue. I don't think I should have to lug my turbo to the hardware store to find bolts. They made $900 bucks off of me, I'd expect to be able to bolt this up and enjoy it. Aside from the fact that they don't include the hardware they couldn't even include a note that said "if upgrading from stock turbo you will need such-n-such hardware". Sorry but I think it's crappy service to leave the customer in the dark and let them figure out everything for themselves. Yes they answered my emails and phone calls but for the money that I spent I shouldn't even have to do that much work.

In total I've been to the hardware store twice, now I have to drive to work on my day off (40 minute drive) just to trim the studs that I bought to make them fit properly. I think Precision turbo can afford $3 worth of hardware more than I can afford all this extra work to "bolt on" a new turbo.

Let me put it this way, if someone spent close to a grand on my performance parts, I'd make sure they had an easy time installing it and didn't run into any issues.

Yes it's "only two bolts" and "only a trip to a hardware store" but I expected my car to be up and running 3 days ago.

Anyways I don't think you were being rude or anything, we just have a different opinion about the issue, no biggie.

With any luck the turbo will be installed soon and as long as it doesn't blow up in the first week, Precision Turbo will still be decent in my eyes.

Ha Ha, I was closer.

I actually just tightened those bolts this weekend but used my Metwrench tools which are both so sorry for the misinformation.

I bet after it's all installed & you get your first kill, Or go through your first set of rear tires (which ever comes first) all will be right with the world again! Still waiting on mine. (GT6162)Ordered it from Full Throttle a couple weeks ago. Should be here soon, I hope! Everything else is done, just waiting on Turbo.......

I just bought a GT6162, waiting on delivery. Hoping I don't run into same problem. Come on suppliers, step up, help us avoid some frustration.

I bought the gt6162 from full throttle and I had to drill out the oil return and buy bigger bolts

I am PISSED !!! It's 2:40 a.m. trying to put on a new turbo. After spending just over 2 GRAND on this thing, and now almost done, and find out about this. everything on the turbo is metric, is this a cruel joke; is someone at precision smoking crack, WTF? and now i have to drill the oil flange, knowing that thing isn't very flexible. this sucks.

speaking of cruel jokes could it be this happened to you because you painted those GORGEOUS amber signal lights black? This was one of the first mods I ever DIY'ed. Sanded the glass down and painted with some JDM Amber....came out bitching.

all bs aside good luck with the problem, wish you lived closer!

I verified this with our Engineer.
There are two bolt sizes used, depending on how the turbo was built and what model it is.

The T3/T4 Air Cooled dbb turbos, bearing housings are tapped for M8 x 1.25 threaded bolts.

Journal bearing turbos will either be M8 x 1.25 or 3/8 - 16 threaded bolts.
Depending on how it was built.

Hope this helps.

that's just my taste. I've worked on others cars, I may not like what they want done, but if they are paying, i'll do it - most of the time.

Forgive me, I apoligize to everyone at Precision for making that comment, it was 3 a.m., and i had to vent. The factory bolts were going in, but they would tighten up like it was the wrong size. out of fear of breaking the bolt off, i trimmed it by 1/4" and it worked fine.
