I just got back from going for a ride in my 86 gn and I noticed it will only go to third gear, and it acts like there is a huge stall converter in it when I go in reverse, in other words when I back up, I have to rev it pretty good to get it to move. and when going foward it stays in gear longer before it shifts. Can not get it to go into overdrive no matter what I do. including adjusting the throttle valve cable. Any ideas?

Thanks

Matt

I just put my gn on the lift and pulled the tranny pan, everything looks in order. I did check the fluid level with the engine running and it was overfull making me think that it is not pumping. Before this happened it would shutter in reverse and you had to give it more throttle than you should have to get it to move in reverse, now with it not shifting into OD and it still shifts firm 1-2 and 2-3 but you really have to get the rpms up to get it to shift, and now with reverse you have really got to rev it to make it move. I thought that the tranny would be dead and not move at all if the pump went out.

Any ideas at all?

okay, I put the tranny back together and the pump works, it just about doesnt have reverse, I can move in reverse but it takes some doing. foward is still the same, it goes into drive and goes good but it takes a lot of rpms to make it shift.
