As far as rebuilding the Cam sensor with a Pro kit the little feet on the cam sensor toward gear need to be present if they are worn off then the housing isn't rebuildable. REMOVE CAM SENSOR CAP BEFORE APPLYING ANY SOLVENT AS IT COULD DAMAGE THE ELECTRONICS IN THE CAP! Brake or carb cleaner works well to clean up the housing and shaft of the old oil gunk some may need soaking. The shaft can be final cleaned up with fine scotchbrite or 800/1000 grit sand paper. If using abrasive be sure and clean all parts very very through of any grit!!!!! Also, when pressing out the old bushing and pressing in new ones it helps to heat the housing when R&Ring them. And lubing oring

I will also take a pro kit...looks like you need to ramp up production like Elon....

Is this a procedure a back yard mechanic can do?
Thats pretty vague to answer as some back yard mechanics are pretty well setup. As stated earlier in the thread, install requires some mechanical aptitude to install. The basic kit can be done with basic tools, a vice really should be used tho.

don't mean to hijack .but is there a way to check cam sensor out of the car want to buy a pro kit .have an extra sensor just want to make sure it'good.

If it has a factory roll pin then thats a weak link, then the other parts need to be checked. The little "feet" on bottom of cam sensor (down by gear wear the flat shim rests) need to be there to allow for the wave washer to place tension on the shim to feet. If you have a sensor and the feet are worn off it is not rebuildable. Im working on making a new piece that can reestablish the "Feet" but would require the old cam body to be machined for the part to fit. If you have one in your car currently that isn't worn and is factory piece then at a minimum it will need the basic kit to fix roll pin and then the balance tab/shim to balance the assembly and the spare one thats worn then it will need a pro kit. Or buy two pro kits to fix the one currently in your car when it wears.

Cant seem to edit the post..... To elaborate further on the feet wear. I would not attempt to rebuild a cam sensor with feet less than .025 the internals are splash and mist oiled so too close of a gap wont allow proper lubrication. Its a shame we didnt have this years ago. Shame that we didnt have this 15+ years ago several thousands of the cam sensors were thrown away over the years that could have been saved.
