1. When you see knock, how many millivolts does your Scanmaster read?

2. When you see the knock, does it start off at 1, then 3, then 5 and continue to escalate? Or does "5.4" just randomly come from out of know where?

Scanmaster Readings - Please Help!

Blew a head gasket and rear main last year and I don't want a repeat!

ALL stock car.
ALL GASKETS replaced last year.
1987 GN, 14,000 original miles.

Well knock can do that.

Sure the surfaces are right? Don't get me wrong, knock is bad, but a stock engine can take a zillion times more knock then a 500 hp TR engine and if it stops about 5*, it has stopped knocking and the computer is doing its job.
 
What octane fuel are you running? Who’s chip are you running?
Personally I would not allow any KR on my car.

And what boost level. :D

Any knock.. drop the boost until it doesnt knock.

If its octane related.. add octane like racing gasoline.. or get an alky system on the car.

Knock beats out the bearings and hurts the head gaskets.

25 with no knock to me is less damaging than 14 PSI with knock.
 
Probably 92 Octane(Regular Premium Gas)

Can just dump some Zylene in the gas, get some race fuel, or see it there is a Sunoco GT 100 station near by. Of course an alky system - that way ya never need to turn the boost down!

If a good dose of that does not kill the knock then it might be something other then real knock.

Do you have a boost gauge to know how much you're really blowing?

I see somebody is paying close attention here :)

Good catch there - it could be that simple. Adjust or replace and adjust the TPS. 14 PSI and no enrichment = knock
 
Before I found this site and started the mods to my GN; my basically stock (Hyper Tech, test tube, K&N, bleeder valve and stock fuel pump and wiring = 13.50@105) was knocked severely for 12 years and 220,000 miles and it was still fine!

Although I learned the hard way how fast it will hurt once the volume is turned up a bit more then a chip.

The stock engine is a seriously tough piece of work.
 
Gotta get a new chip at the very least. Verify that TPS goes to at the very least 3.5v at WOT. That can be checked in the driveway, key on. You're on borrowed time if you keep hammerin' the piss out of it like that.

Well that was REAL knock. Notice how it went from a small number to a big number?

False knock is usually a sudden huge number out of nowhere.

I once stomped on the pedal from a 55 mph cruise and got an immediate 10 on the KR led's. The alky was on too.

But you never did say what your 02 volts were. Were they 780-800 at the top of the gear?
