Well that was REAL knock. Notice how it went from a small number to a big number?

False knock is usually a sudden huge number out of nowhere.

I once stomped on the pedal from a 55 mph cruise and got an immediate 10 on the KR led's. The alky was on too.

But you never did say what your 02 volts were. Were they 780-800 at the top of the gear?

I'll verify that tomorrow also.
THANKS for the help!

No boost gauge.

Sounds like a future headgasket if your not careful. The scan tool is whats saving you.

Be careful... dont play with boost and knock. Its a bad combination when there's as issue. Its like playing with matches and gunpowder.

I think a boost gauge was the very first thing I bought for my car, followed by a Scanmaster. Your flyin' blind if you don't know what boost your running.

Help

I see somebody is paying close attention here :)

Good catch there - it could be that simple. Adjust or replace and adjust the TPS. 14 PSI and no enrichment = knock

Snowing so I can't get it out today, but with the ignition on, the TPS was
.34
pedal to the floor, 3.58

TPS is adjusted with the engine off so it doesn't matter if it's snowing out.
It's not adjusted right. Use the link as a guide. They can also get dead spots in them so it might need replacing. The IAC will also need to be looked at as changing the TPS can effect the IAC reading. There is a page on the org site on adjusting the IAC as well. It's not difficult to do but takes patience going back and forth between the TPS and IAC.

Do you need a scanmaster and a knock gauge if your motor is BONE STOCK?
No but it' the best way to make sure it will live under boost. It' right there in your face if there is problem.

THANKS for the advice. I'll try to adjust it tomorrow. For some reason, I bought a new original one off eBay last year!

It is close but not right - better then it seemed at first. I am not sure how much voltage is needed before more fuel is added.

I believe PE takes effect once TPS voltage hits ~3.5v. Either way, the TPS needs to be adjusted to within specs.

I would strongly suggest a real boost gauge as well. The dash one is really a joke. If you are still getting knock after the adjustments I would try upping the octane of the gas to see if it is fuel related. You can make up some high octane fuel for testing by mixing xylene and 93, 1 to 3 and adding a capfull of Marvel Mystery Oil. It gives about 98 octane.

Depends on the chip as to when it goes into PE. Stock chip may be 3.5 but the TPS if reads .34 is way wrong. And wrong is wrong.

Loosen the 2 screws that hold down the tps and pull it forward torwards the radiator. While keeping forward tension adjust so it gives you between .38 and .44 on the TPS scanmaster setting. Once you have this number snug down the two bolts.

Setting is to be between .38 and .46. When you start the car it almost always reads .02 higher. This is why I put the .44. Once the car hits .48 the computer thinks your foot is on the pedal aka off-idle.

I've seen the information on the other website.
Is there one good resource (book or web) for tuning and caring for these cars?

I'll burn up the gas in the tank and put in a couple gallons of 100 octane racing fuel. It's available at a gas station near me.
Anything to be wary of with the racing fuel in the tank?

Maybe I missed it but what fuel pressure are you running and what is the boost set at? On a stock car with stock settings I don’t see why you would need to run 100 octane fuel unless something is wrong. In which case your masking the problem and not fixing it.
