I purchased a 1982 Regal Sport Coupe.

3.8 turbo. The computer had been removed, was running rough and overheating.

After testing the coolant for exhaust gasses I tore down the top end to have the heads re-done.

When re-assembling I installed a vac advance distributor and a Q-Jet from a 79 tubo car that is not electronic. All this since there was no computer.

I also ditched the smog pump and related items. I was told that the reson the head gasket was "nicked" was the result of running low octane fuel. I am giving the car to a 16 year old kid. He is a good kid but I'm certain he won't be using 93 octane so I will be facing the same problem again in the future.

I was told to simply remove the vacuum lines to the turbo and it shoudn't be a problem.

After fighting several problems I have come to realize that without the lines to the wastegate actuator I am compounding the problems with too much boost. I tried leaving the wastegate open but the car runs terrible and shifts way late.

So now I have hooked the actuator rod back up but I don't know what the two hose barbs are supposed to hook to. I realize that it needs pressure instead of vacuum, but I can not find anything but vac.

The only fitting I see on the compressor (at the base where it bolts to the intake) is vacuum when the car is at idle. Does this line change to boost when the turbo spools up?

Also what does the second barb on the acuator hook too? And what does the boost gauge connect to?

Sorry for all the stupid questions but I am new to the turbo world.

Thanks

First off, add some info like a location through your user controls. Second is to make sure the kid realizes that the car needs super unleaded to run properly and break things. Third is to come and join those of us that are B4Black guys like yourself in the B4black section. Do a lot of reading and searching and if that doesn't work ask questions. :)

You are best off getting the car back to stock configuration and starting from there. Takes out a lot of guesswork.
