Is it possible to retain speakers in the rear and stay within the rules? The way I read them its not. Anyone have any experience with this?

no speakers. in case of fire, will go right through the speaker material and flame away. although i doubt anyone would say anything. wait, i see your looking at 9s. seal it man, dont "F" around.

Scott,
The trunk must be sealed from the drivers compartent. This includes all holes.

Thanks guys !! That's basically what I figured. Just don't wanna give up my speakers.

Stock class or?

There is no requirement that I know of in the NHRA rule book that requires a stock class vehicle to seal the trunk from the pass compartment, UNLESS the battery is located there.

If the battery is secured in an approved box, steel, aluminum or poly, then there is no requirement for sealing the trunk. Without the box rule states "rear firewall of .024" steel or .032" aluminum [including package tray] required".

Alright,

Let's assume you have your battery and fuel cell in the trunk. Why couldn't you build nice sheetmetal enclosures around the speakers that sealed the speakers off from the trunk area?

Seems to me that would meet the intent of the NHRA rules.

BTW the rule says .030 aluminum or .024 steel.

Dave, My chassis guy used the original speaker holes for the downbars. He then cut me some new speaker holes with a plasma cutter, which I've been using ever since. I now need to patch it all up.

I'm using .032 aluminum. Already did behind the back seat. Now just need to finish the package shelf.
