I installed a nitrous kit on the t-type a few weeks ago. The results are incredible.

From the outset I simply wanted something to help spool my turbo. My combo is a little laggy with the stock long block and TE45A. I also really hate having to spool the turbo at the line at the track with the transbrake. I much prefer pulling up and just foot braking it a few rpm and stabbing the throttle.

Ever since I installed my GEN II translator I wanted to use the auxiliary output to activate nitrous to spool the turbo and turn it off before full boost.

So I purchased a super cheap sniper nitrous kit, 75-125 hp and installed it with the GenII logging MAP signal and triggering the nitrous at wot no boost, 3000 rpm and then shutting off the nitrous at around 15 psi.

I started with the 75 and after a few blasts with that I stepped up to the 125.

It is nothing short of incredible. The second 3000 rpm hits the tach suddenly jumps almost instantly to 5 grand. I now have uncontrollable wheelspin on these weak BFG radials im driving on since one of my DRs was punctured.

I can pretty much do John Force burnouts from anything under 45 mph. I haven't stayed in it long enough to know how far it will keep burning the tires down

The only problem is that this cheesy kit doesnt come with a pressure gauge much less any kind of bottle heater. From what I see from my nitrous addicted LS1 buddies, an ambient temperature bottle is usually nowhere near 950 psi that the kit is rated to run at. All the ones i have seen are usually in the lower 700s. So im guessing I have at least another 30 hp of nitrous im missing out on.

And at this rate, the 10 lb bottle should last me a very long time considering the fact that I am only spraying it for less than a second at a time.

whoa you are a lot braver than me

I gave mine a 35 shot and it picked up 6 mph in the 1/8th

I am a firm believer in how well nitrous can help out almost ANY engine, these turbo cars go nuts on a little cold air don't they

Nitrous is wonderful:smile: Have a fogger and a plate on our race car!

Sounds awesome! Nice to see people tryen the nitrous and burying old wisetales on how dangerous it is.

I really like the way you set it up to trigger at a certain point and shut it off before full boost. That's probably the only way I would want to do it.

we ran NOS from 1986/89 in the GN .. worked great on a stock car

I love playing with nitrous. When I hit a 125 shot on my Vega it went from a foot wheelie to on the bumper.
I don't know about a dry shot but for wet nos system optimin bottle psi is between 900-1000. I don't know how much of a difference it makes because I ran 3 identicle runs with 1 at 700 and 2 at 900psi.

well my name says it all,now you got me thinking about it;) i just bumped up the jets on my 68,but im all motor on the gn and everyone ask"whens it getting juiced"i run it on all my cars ive had and with great results, but never on the gn...

one time on my vette the nitrous sylinoid stuck open and filled the cylinders, then once i hit the gas i blew off every vacuum line, blew apart the booster and twisted the throttle bodie and wasted a intake gasket and it sounded like a shotgun went off,not good, but i fixed it and installed a new sylinoid and went right back:biggrin:

post pics when you get a chance..

I am running the shot wet. The GenII could probably correct for it but I would rather have the fuel there rather than have the GenII make a large correction. Right now it just fine tunes and it keeps the AFR right where I want it.

I'll gladly take picts right now, should be up in a couple hours

Gotta love Bob Bailey, making it a reality to run a T74 on your stock block!!

I bet that TE45 is pretty tame now, I dig the spool up and leave it alone idea. Harder to make an error if it's only on for a few seconds.

The only thing wrong with nitrious is not knowing what you are doing with it. As long as you don't lean it out or spray to much you usually will have no problems at all. Guys get it and want to shoot 500 or something stupid on a stock motor and then cry when it tears it to pieces lol. My 68 firebird is totally stock in the bottom end right now, right down to cast pistons and I run a 150 shot on it all the time with no problems but I do have a seperate fuel cell and holley red just for the nitrious so I know I get plenty of fuel with the spray. Lean nitrious is usually what causes all the horror storys out there. Its like anything else, you need to read, read, read and set it up right before you use it. Daniel Ray

N20 Rules!
Funny side story,
My buddy has modded F-body LS1, and civic h/b w/ B18B integra ls motor. both on the bottle. The LS1 camaro ran a 10.6 at Year One Exprience 3 years ago, and caught fire and burned up on the track (as seen on RIDES! on TLC) Sooo, he took the camaro kit, and put it on the civic as a second kit. The car ran 14.0 on the motor on slicks, on one kit it'd do 12.8. The second kit not so suprisingly caused problems, a major hiccup at the 1/8 blew the lil 1.8, and still ran a 12.8. So when the motor is blown what do you do?! Pull the jets and run 2 kits wide open on 3 cyls! result was a 12.6 smoking like a train, and spinning slicks at will.
Yeah nitrous rules, but dont be a crack head and rely on it too heavily. Its fun and done right seems be much safer than it gets credit for. BTW, civic was fixxed in a week for minimal $, the camaro is long still dead. :(

may be a crazy question...but here goes. Do you run the alky along with the wet shot of nitrous? I would assume you could/would if running 93 pump gas...or do you always run race gas?

Btw, I like the idea of using the GenII to control this and using it in the lower boost levels.

Good question Glenn, those pics would be nice too. ;)

I run the alky along with the nitrous. They work independently from each other. I also can only run 91 octane as that is all that is available.

I am running about 30 psi of boost right now, single nozzle methanol on max setting. I've been running it this way for quite some time. The engine has 170k on it and still going strong.

Here are those picts I promised... Better late than never!

In this next one you can see my Evac system... the Nitrous Relay is on the bottom left in line with the other relays. I made a small aluminum bracket for the relay to bolt to an existing relay bolt hole for the map.

This is where the nitrous line passes through the firewall. Just put a hole in my AC delete plate and ran it under the dash, under the center console, then under the carpeting on the drive shaft tunnel rear of the center console and then under the rear seat to the trunk. I still need to put a grommet here.

To mount the bottle here I had to fab up some stand offs for the bolts since the bottom of the spare tire well is not flat. I cut small sections (maybe 2" tall) of pvc tubing to accomplish this and painted them black.

Here is what makes the magic happen :)

any questions feel free to ask

Anyone think of a way to trigger a nitrous system like that without having a GenII system? There must be some way to trigger it and shut it off just using a basic vacuum/boost source but I have too much going on tonight so sit down and figure it out.
