I run straight water with additive. She runs 160 degrees all summer, no more spiking at stop lights. Now that it's cooler outside-40's and 50's. my GN engine temps are at 140 degrees. I have a 160 degree stat. Is there any thing I should be concerned about?

I was experiencing similar such issues after installing my new Radiator (with 160 T-stat) during the late summer / fall last year.
Changed over to a 180deg T-stat. All is good now!
My suggestion would be to install the 180deg unit for the colder months, then back to the 160 for the summer / hotter weather.

Or a compromise: Alternatively, you can buy a 170 T-stat made for a small block Chevy & trim the OD with tin snips so it will fit in the Buick thermostat housing.

Just me 2cents. :)

if you have a 160 stat and seeing 140s either the stat is stuck open or your temp gauge is inaccurate

Hi; Yes it is possible that the stat is stuck or the gauge is faulty. The all alluding question still remains," is the computer adjusting the fuel as if it was in a old start mode?"

what are you looking at for engine temp
is it the ecu coolant sensor with a scanmaster or other scan tool, or an aftermarket gauge which uses a different sender?

if the ecu sees below 140 depending on chip you could fall into the warm up mode because it isnt up to operating temp yet, the timing wont be full and the fueling will be under slight enrichment and will be under open loop (wont go closed loop below 140) but at 140 it should be considered at op temp idle and fueling should be normal

i have to ask
why did you post this in an alcohol forum?

Hi; My Auto meter and OTC 4000 are my tools. My temps range from 140-160 when it is 40 degrees outside. Years ago I bypassed the coolant into the intake. My posts in alcohol forum was based upon two thoughts. One Turbotdr3.8 on Aug.8, 2013 and two, tuning with alky control kit. I want to "GO FAST WITH CLASS" the safest way possible and push the edge. Thinking that if the temps are cool outside and in the engine I could sqeeze a tenth or two. I'm down to 11.6 in the 1/4. The track closes at the end of November. A test and tune day. Air temps usally in the 40's. I did last year but with camII and coolant. Looking for a little more. Hopfully 11.4 or 5. Pretty cool for an old man and a 4000lb 6 cylinder. I LOVE IT. Sorry if I broke the rules. Thanks for responding.

no rules just it wasnt really alcohol related

as to running cold engine temps
my op temps at track are 175 during runs , inlet temps at plenum with alky are about ambient
the oil will work better (less drag) if you get it warmer
