im new to the whole GN thing so any help would be greatly appreciated! im pretty sure i installed the cam sensor incorrectly and fouled the plugs cranking it over so much and dumping all that fuel in there... im just not sure how to install it correctly (i assumed the notch was lined up at #1 TDC) so heres my process- let me know what u guys think the problem could be : complete stock rebuild (block and heads hot tanked, all bearings, cylinders honed, ect...) double checked all the wiring and referred to the chiltons / 2 GN/T-Type books to make sure i did everything correctly. machined a priming tool, good oil pressure- everything looked good. disconnected ECM wire and cranked it for a bit to double check that everything sounded on point. hooked the ECM back up, bled the air out of fuel system, it made good fuel pressure. went to start it up finally, *pop* (backfires through intake) so im thinking - ok, timings off... rotated cam sensor 10* counter clock wise and tried again- no pop *stutter* *stutter* it was half-ass firing so i figured i might be a little closer. battery ran out of juice, so i let it sit on the auto charge for a bit. went back to crank it again- this time nothing at all. so i checked spark (good on all cylinders), injectors (NOID light says theyre all there), ok WTF... pulled plug #1 - its wet. so i checked it (strong spark, it acutally ignited the excess fuel on it). plug #6- also wet. checked out good too. so now i"m really confused- there is fuel and spark and its cranking all day but nobodys home... i'm really at a loss here- and a little out of my element since its not a mustang lol apologies for the long post- i figure the more you guys hear the easier it will be to diagnose... trying some new plugs tomorrow,, thanks in advance! -Ben

just another note here- according to chiltons and both GN/T-Type books the cam sensor doesnt even exist... since its in NONE of their illustrations :( how helpful... Can anyone recommend better learning tools for these cars??

Look here, about 1/2 way down the page and click the links regarding the cam sensor. You can't just line up the timing mark at 0* and expect it to start. There's a very specific procedure for setting the cam sensor.

ok... cam sensor re-installed correctly- still nothing... trying new plugs in the morning

new plugs in, re-set cam sensor to double check. re-primed motor while it was out. now im getting a backfire(s) through intake, but still not running... any ideas? this seems like a timing issue to me... im trying to learn, but im still not familiar with these particular (GM) cars!
