GOVERNOR SAYS LEGISLATIVE REPEAL OF TRAFFIC CAM TO BECOME LAW

Governor Ben Cayetano today said that in response to the Legislature's intent to repeal the traffic photo enforcement program, he has instructed Transportation Director Brian Minaai to terminate the pilot program. The Governor intends to allow the legislation to pass into law without his signature.

"The traffic van cam law is the creation of the Legislature, and if they want to now cancel the program it will be cancelled, " said Governor Cayetano.

The Governor said it is unfortunate the pilot program has met with an early demise because its objective was a good one: to promote safety on our roads and highways by controlling speeding. "Driving at faster speeds has become a habit for many drivers and explains, at least in part, why there was so much opposition to the traffic van cam."

The Governor needs to get his head out of his *SS and realize that the speed limits here are RIDICULUS!!!! Come on get with the program. There are no states on the mainland with 55 mph highways anymore (except where it is really necessary through dense cities, and even that's starting to go away). And damn!!! I don't know of too many places on this island where the speed limit is more than 35 except on SOME portions of the highways! People on the mainland DON'T believe me when I say that some parts of H1 are actually 35 mph!!!! NY was the best state I've been in for speed limits. Pretty much every road was 55 (including some roads I had a hard time doing 45 on). This is upstate of course, NYC is it's own seperate country let alone part of the state. And apparently the judges know this as they threw out every ticket from the scam vans that wasn't at least 10 mph over. So, come on Governor, get a CLUE! I've only been here a few years, and I have not seen ANY signs of brightness shine upon you yet!!!

I just spent a week there....

The cops are rediculous with speed traps especially on 61. WTF? and 45mph on the highways? Whats up with that?
