Is there a special trick to installing the cam sensor? I can't seem to get mine to mate with the oil pump shaft, tried to test-spin the engine off and on for a good 30 minutes and no oil in the rocker arm area or out the turbo oil feed line......

By test spin, are you talking about spinning the pump or are you cranking the motor over? You can damage the motor just on the starter with no oil pressure over a long period of time. A little oil on the 0-ring helps a lot getting it all the way down in the hole and don't line it up perfectly because when it meshes with the cam gear it turns a little.

No oil??

C84, did you learn that from your "bestest bud"???:D :D :D
I bet he "learned" Lou C. the same trikz!!
Actually, when you spun the pump, you did have the pump cavity packed w/ "sneaky cream", didn't you?? AKA Vaselene:cool:
The starter may not be turning the engine fast enough.
You did turn the pump w/ a drill motor and a primer tool? It did turn in the clockwise direction didn't it??
The oil pump pickup is gasketed and tite? The pan does have oil in it?:(
You should be able to put the engine at 25* ATDC, drop the cam sensor in until it goes into the cam gear, then w/ some pressure on the sensor hsg, bump the starter and the sensor body should drop to the cover when the oil pimp shaft drops into the end of the sensor gear.
REMEMBER, once the cam and sensor gears are correctly timed, and in mesh, the engine can be rotated and timing not be lost.
Continuing to rotate the engine dry w/ the starter WILL fry the cam and not help the brgs either!!

A quick test.. turn the oil pump shaft w/ a screw driver. Turn it clockwise. It's not locked up is it??

A long time ago me, Jason, and another friend with a GN were all close to firing our new motors. All three of us went in and bought two BIG jars of Vasoline. The cashier was looking at us funny at first and then started busting up laughing. I guess it did look pretty bad... On a side note my motor and my other friend's started right up. Jason's only ran on 4 cylinders and upon teardown he had the top rings on upsidedown.... On another side note I was told Lou doesn't know how to run a business and that's why your bestest bud "quit".

I'll go back to square 1 and try it exactly as you suggest..we'll see what happens...

OK guys, set up everything exactly as instructed: Castrol 5w30 oil in the crosshatched area on dipstick, packed oil pump with vaseline, put primer shaft on Makita, spun this SOB for 10 minures and not a drop in the valve train or out the turbo feed pipe..what the ^%$!@*%& am I doing wrong??????

You're spinning it clockwise, right? Usually it takes no more than 20 seconds to get pressure and as soon as it does it will almost stop the drill. I've never been able to get oil up through the pushrods and onto the rockers just by priming it. That's why I make sure the rockers are coated in oil and I pump the lifters in a cup of oil before installation.

Have you removed the filter to see if there's any oil in it?

SUMPTIN WONG!!!

KH, is the ft cover a new part?? If so, it may not be drilled thru in 1 of the passages.
Do you have a turbo saver? If so, you may have the lines crossed.
Suggest you follow the thread on here about the same problem

It may give you some more ideas.

By strang coincidence I do have a brand new GM-issue cover, to what passage are you referring? Anyway putting this &%#@^&$ POSon the back burner for now I'm so disgusted with it....(but that's another story):(
